Description This is what happens when you don't market your movie properly. Or more like when you get screwed over by the foreign distribution company.

EDIT - 8/9/2012: Huh? What's with all the messages on my folder? Wait a minute, why is everyone comenting on this comic? Oh no, you are not telling me that...*goes to check EqD* SETHIS-TOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Seriously though, thank you for featuring my comic! Again ^_^; But hey, this has actually given me a chance to correct a few mistakes and edit a few things out. Thanks for pointing out the errors on AJ's speech. I also noticed that the word "bunnies" was missing a letter, fixed that too.

I have never done something that got over three thousand views in like seven years. This got more than nine thousand, just today (8/9/12). I am flabergasted. Thank you so much <3

LOL I've seen that movie when I was young, my parents hadn't seen it yet, I know how she felt: at first I was like , but then I was all , & I was like !

When I first saw that movie, I thought it was supposed to be like Bambi. Then that rabbit got shredded by a dog and I freaked the fuck out

I didn't see the movie, but the book is downright awesome. One of my favourite books ever, actually.

The movie is surprisingly faithful to the book. Obviously some things get left out, so it feels rushed here and there, but I think it's more satisfying than most adaptations. It's a shame most people only know it for Bright Eyes, too, since the incidental music is wonderful.

I had to read WD, but I loved it... though, I'm with Fluttershy. Especially in the beginning, when Fiver tells of the "field covered in blood"... that creeped me out

Yeah, Watership Down was an amazing book/movie.
And also horribly brutal and sad.
But have you read/watched "The Plague Dogs"?

Saw them both when I was like 8 or 9, scared the crap out of me! So did Secrets of Nymn.

Yeah.

Kind of like The Dark Crystal and The Neverending Story if you want to consider non-animation.

Great comic! Too bad she didn't watch the TV series instead, it has a bit of a lighter feel to it (it was broadcast after school here in the kids TV timeslot between 1999 to 2001) and an awesome soundtrack by Mike Batt (who wrote Bright Eyes for the film). I saw the film first as a kid before the TV series and some didn't like the different stance for the TV series, but I really liked its charm and how it expanded further on the world of the rabbits. It did go suddenly darker in Season 3 though, which I felt was too much of a drastic change to everything (including voice actors etc.) as if they were trying too hard to go in a different direction despite trying to be a direct continuation of Season 1-2 at the same time. Apparently it wasn't shown on TV here too due to the changes. I think they could of carried on longer if they had kept the charm of the earlier seasons. I didn't mind the dark side in the film, but then I kind of felt, well I can always watch the film when I want that. Just my 2 bits!

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Indeed, in the case of a HiE story where they set up a cinema to show ponies Earth movies you'd have to rethink the ratings you're familiar with if you wish to escape breaking the cutie.

That was funny very well done you got Fluttershy to the T at the end. Word of advice Fluttershy, look at the rating before you watch the movie lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

soudou In reply to tigreanpony [2012-08-10 17:25:21 +0000 UTC]

The unique thing about this film is that in the UK it was rated U (Universal - For All Ages), you can imagine some of the complaints when parents took their kids to see it at the cinema (not me though, I didn't mind it). In America it got a different rating, but still only a PG (Parental Guidance), same rating as things like Toy Story.

soudou In reply to soudou [2012-08-10 17:26:13 +0000 UTC]

Oh - I didn't see it at the cinema though. Since it came out late 70s.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

loganberrybunny In reply to soudou [2012-08-10 20:38:02 +0000 UTC]

I think part of the reason for that is that the PG rating hadn't been introduced in Britain in 1978; it arrived in the 80s sometime. Though that doesn't explain why the video was always kept as a U. Speaking as an absolute obsessive about Watership Down in general, I'd have thought that film was easily a PG. It's almost certainly the bloodiest U-rated film in existence!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

soudou In reply to loganberrybunny [2012-08-11 13:00:35 +0000 UTC]

That's interesting, didn't know PG only came about until later. Make sense. And yeah, I agree, it is odd how when you look up the DVD on Amazon it's still U rated.

I saw that movie as a very little kid, it was traumatizing! They totally miss-marketed it as it is not a kid's film! It's actually awesome now as an adult but that last panel Fluttershy was me as a kid.

So you all saw Watership Down, Plague Dogs, but has anyone seen Felidae, the German animated movie about cats?
That was really, really messed up. Cat sex, murder, and rape. wtf. And Nazi cats, and cult cats. The almost Aristocats animation doesn't help.

Ha, never knew there was a movie of Felidae! Read the book; it had the most disturbing cover (a ginger cat with human eyes...).

Hey, if you liked "Watership Down", then "Plague Dogs" will be a laugh a minute! A story so depressing and cynical that you'll want to pull out your teeth with Vise-Grips(tm) just so the pain will distract you.

Richard Adams needs a cookie or something.
