So there is a very surprising trend going in the Pony Fandom that I find both amusing and fascinating. That is the trend of having Rarity fight against a giant crab. I don't understand why, or how it all came to be, or if this was supposed to be a spin on the whole "Giant Enemy Crab" meme spawned by the disastrous E3 Sony PS3 conference. Maybe it was going to originally have all of the Mane Six, but after doing just Rarity people found it really unique so everybody went and said, "Let's draw Rarity fighting a Giant Crab! It will be awesome!"I agree, it is awesome. And it's Best Pony fighting a giant foe, so how am I not going to jump in on the bandwagon and make another drawing to add to the pile?
I was looking for an idea to practice my shading and trying a new technique, so I decided to go with this one. I've grown dependent to having black outlines and inks in all my pictures, so with this one I decided against it. It doesn't have a single outline or "ink" and all I did was adding color until it looked like what you are seeing right now. Yeah, I know the crab's pincers are huge compared to his body and that he is most likely going to fall on his face as soon as he takes one step, but I don't really care. It had to look threateningly cute, and I think I achieved that. This is a very costly technique in terms of time and planning ahead, but the results satisfy me greatly.

It's like Dark Souls, It doesn't have a very welcoming beginning, it's hard as fuck, but when you kill something you feel like a god. It has a way of giving you a feeling that if you fail to kill a boss that's the only thing you ever think about until a you kill it, almost as if they were mocking you.

I love all the details and texture of the crab, it really does look monstrous, those eyes also look so nice.
The shading and composition are also really good, it looks like your experiment turned out successfully!

It is because Pokehidden got a request to draw Rarity fighting a giant crab. He should have done it, but he biased the random selection system. His exact words were. "There is no way I am drawing that shit."

Once upon a time, a guy called "whatsapokemon" comissioned several artists all over deviantart and beyond with a random subject called "Rarity fights a Giant Crab". The comissions were completed and it created a Domino Effect among other artists who decided to create their own take on this.
In the end, the whole thing became viral and we all can see the results.

I have just one question... what is Rarity's weapon meant to be? It looks original.
And I believe that the Rarity vs Giant Crab thing stems from an Equestria Daily Drawfriend (no, I can't tell you the date or number) which had a random Rarity vs Giant Crab picture as its header. I couldn't tell you which picture from the many that now exist it was. All I know is that that was how I first became aware of this being a thing, and that the number of RvsGC (clumsy acronym) images in Drawfriends ballooned after that.

I intended it to be a ruby sword. It's like she took a ruby and carved a sword out of it. The glow of her magic around the handle makes it look like the hand cover of a normal sword.
