Emily and Lady for season 2 of NEW THOMAS AND FRIENDS.

I know it’s a bit early to be thinking about a second season of New Thomas and Friends, but I’ve been thinking of a way to introduce possible the two most popular female steam engines in the model era. I wanted to give those two new backstories.

The problem with Emily’s story was she was introduced as a new engine in season 7 with no expiration of where she came from or if she was saved from scrap like Oliver.

And as for Lady… let’s be honest… a magical steam engine on a magic railway… sorry “RAILROAD” isn’t going to work for a series set on a realistic RWS universe.

I was thinking how I’m going to introduce these characters, when I had a brain wave. Hear me out…

Emily was one of the 53 Stirling Singles that was built in 1878. But instead of going to the Great Northern Railway like her brothers and sisters, she was sold to the Sodor and Mainland Railway in 1880. She became the line’s express and the railway’s number 4 engine. She also became good friends with the three Neilson 0-4-0 box tank engines that handle the line’s good work. I like to think Neil and Emily were best friends in this universe. She still have the same personality as her TV series self, fussy and impulsive at times, but with a big heart.

Lady is the 101 class, the only one of her built in 1901 and had no name. But in this universe after her technical issues, Swindon Works wanted to sell the engine as soon as possible. She was sold to the Elsbridge and Knapford Railway who wanted a tank engine to help with the construction of tracks to Tidmouth. She arrived in 1905 after being rebuilt into a coal fire engine at E&K railway’s request and helped to build the coastal tracks to Tidmouth Harbour. She worked along with the four coffee pot engines, who did the line’s goods work from the mines to Knapford Harbour. After the coastal lines was destroyed in a storm in 1908, 101 helped to build the new tracks to Tidmouth through a tunnel. The line was finished in 1910 and the railway was renamed to the “Tidmouth, Knapford and Elsbridge Light Railway.” 101 was rewarded for her hard work with a new coat of red paint, the same red as the coffee pots and she was finally given a name. “The Lady of Tidmouth”, but everyone calls her Lady for short. For her personality, Lady is like a mother figure towards the Coffee Pots, very kind and wise with respect for everyone.

Where are they now?

In 1914, the three standard gauge railways on Sodor, the Tidmouth, Knapford and Elsbridge Light Railway, the Wellsworth and Suddery Railway and the Sodor and Mainland Railway were merge together to create the North Western Railway, with Sir Topham Hatt the first as the director. He had plans to use Emily and Lady to build the connecting tracks which would make the mainline, but there was a problem. Both engines needed new boilers and a full service after their years of hard work. So they were taken to the new workshops at Crovan’s Gate, but the Works were still setting up shop and still waiting for the equipment needed to repair them. So they were placed into storage in old sheds at the back of the yard until the workshops were complete. This lead to Sir Topham Hatt having to buy two new engines to replace them while they were waiting for repairs. These two engines were Edward and Thomas. After years of building the Mainline and other events, Emily and Lady were forgotten about until season 2 set in 1960. Maybe Thomas finds them in the shed when he goes to the works after crashing into the stationmaster’s house. They’ll then be restore and become part of the North Western Railway. Emily could join Edward on his branchline as a passenger engine and Lady could join Duck on pilot duties at Knapford.

So that is my backstory for Emily and Lady in this universe. Please tell me what you think.
