Most predictable entry to the challenge ever right? ^^
Master Chief. I always have to find refs for his armor when I try to draw a serious picture, there's just too much going on. Especially his helmet... I can NEVER get that helmet 100% right.
I love the Master Chief because he's a hero, and not just because of what he's done for humanity, but also who he is inside the armor. He's a weapon, a man without a life of his own to live outside warfare, yet he still manages to be a sympathetic character thanks to his quippy relationship with Cortana and the reconciled partnership he has with the Arbiter. He's purely altruistic and ready to sacrifice himself for mankind, yet he's just too badass to let the covenant, the flood or the cold vaccuum of space get the better of him. He knows he's the only man for the job, so he'll do it. That's just the way he is.

The extent of my familiarity with the series is pretty much your drawings - so I can't say much about the character himself. But I will say that you portray him in a way that really makes me want to give Halo a try when I'll be able to.

I totally agree.
And there's also the plot point of him being the last of his kind, the last Spartan, and the fact that he basically was forced to watch his fellow Spartans die at the hands of the Covenant. To you and me, that's like watching your closest friends and family being killed right before your eyes.
Yet he manages to keep on trucking, being a badass and kicking alien butt.
I actually wrote a fic on that. Probably should post it here on DA eventually...

Well, the only wrench is that in book canon he's not actually the last one. He hooks back up with five or six of them on Reach after the events of Halo1 and knows that they're off somewhere doing something nondescript staying conveniently out of the way of the game plots. Personally however, I like the idea that he's the last one. It makes him the lonely soldier with nothing to live for except the job and life itself. That's why I consider the books kinda "quasi-canon" and use the parts of them I want to when certain stories or situations require them.

Yeah, I know. I do the same thing, especially when I'm writing. I tend to keep to the videogame canon as closely as possible, but the first three books are pretty close to canon too.

Well the second one deviates from game Canon a bit... and bothers me because of that. And I wasn't much a fan of the third one at all. It ruined my archetype

I've read all the books up to the Cole Protocol (good read, I recommend it), and while they do deviate from the vid canon, they tend to fill in some of the more glaring gaps in the plot, like origins and so on.
"The Fall of Reach" is the one closest to the canon, no doubts about that, and the one about Sgt. Johnson provided some nice background to the Sgt.
It's all a matter of opinion really, and it's up to the fan what to consider truth.

I agree...the helmet is the hardest part to draw. I like the way you do it though...it's a nice blend between Mark IV and Mark VI.

That's an idea.... I'll just make my own armor! Mark V.V! i was thinking of declaring that anyway to excuse the craptastic job I did on his armor in 0051... just claim the markV was outdated so they rushed to build him new stuff that was unnacceptable so they gave him markVI at the start of Halo 2.

Well, he does bang that stuff up pretty well....it makes sense. What DID NOT make any sense to me was they skipped right from Mark IV to Mark VI....
Maybe you're drawing the transition armor: MARK V.
They don't show it in the game because every time Chief puts it on he starts talking like V from V for Vendetta.

Which was effective at first because it confused the covenant long enough for him to throw knives through their heads, but wore out its welcome when the soldiers he was traveling with started executing themselves to stop the droning.
