Description
Aliens fanart y'all. Download for much larger version. Do not mock me for being unable to draw likenessesDude you guys... dude... I've been working on this for at least a week. Most likely more than a week. I had moments of deep sincere love for it and moments of aloof abandonment when it wasn't going right but now it's done and I'm very proud of it.
Okay here's the story: this goes with an Alien fanfic I may write sometime. The plot worked on this basic principle:
In Alien3 Bishop was reduced to a head, chest and right arm. He was deactivated abandoned during the events of the movie... but what if he were salvaged? He would have extensive knowledge of Xenomorph behavior and anatomy after his interactions in Aliens, something pretty valuable to good ol' Weyland Yutani science. Since all they needed was his brain, they'd turn him into a server and mount him in the wall like this.
Call is from Alien Resurrection, she's also a synthetic but according to her she's a synthetic that's build by other synthetics... so as to be more functional as both a computer and a human likeness. As a result we have a robot with free will.
So I thought... what if that robot that designed the newest models was Bishop! With his knowledge exhausted they put him to work on designing computer AI (he'd have little else to do stuck in that wall). He'd crunch those numbers and design the most advanced AI... one greater than himself. After the failure of the new line of robots who don't take orders and the buyout of Weyland-Yutani by Walmart, Bishop and his facility were abandoned to slowly decay and gather dust.
The scene you see here is Call returning to the facility. I figure as a human emulator, Call would consider Bishop like her father. He was probably the one fishing in the mainframe feeding her locations of alien testing sites, guiding her and advising her before she goes on dangerous missions. He gave her all she has and her humanlike programming would love him dearly. I imagine finding him in this abandoned place and seeing the state he was in would break her heart.
Bishop is being maintained by vats of recycled synthetic white blood. He's connected to a Mother type computer systems with lights and stuff. Everything's covered in dust so the ambient light is diffused through a thin veil. I tried to keep the tech looking very Alien with clunky CRTs and oldschool keyboards mounted on consoles. I also entertained my attraction to draping people in ribbons and chains and making hanging wires and stuff. I love it.
If you don't understand, Call's run into the room, swiped the dust off the monitors to see if he's still functioning and climbed on a chair to unshackle his arm from the cuff hanging above and wrap it around herself for comfort....
So yeah... tldr.... I love Aliens

Anyways great job on the composition

There was a deleted scene in Aliens where Bishop asked Ripley to dissconnect him, and she said no, and that 'he was like an old calculator, comfy and dependable,' or somthing along those lines, and that he can get rebuilt. I really, really wish they had let Bishop surive, for some reason he was always my favorite charactor, even though he was only in one film. Hey, have you considered writting a full length story about that plot, and publishing it on FanFiction? Or even maybe here on Deviantart? I hope you consdier doing that, it would be epicly awesome!

Thanks, I was more proud of myself than I should have been over a piece of fanfiction, but I felt so conflicted while watching 3 and I loved Call from Resurrection so the gears just started turning....

Bishop was perhaps my favorite character out of all the movies, to be honest. I'd like to think he's still out there, playing knife games with scared Marines

there's no 'perhaps' with me, I was extremely disappointed with his ending in Alien3... (and the other 'endings' as well) But that's what fanfic is for right? Honestly, I can't believe Michael Bishop would abandon his corpse so easily... not after what he learned on LV426. Plus the compendium or somewhere says Bishop was a special model of android created by Michael Bishop so I bet there's some sentimentality there as well
Personally if I were writing the mythos I would have Bishop be just your average android... it makes him nobler and a better vanguard for redeeming robot kind... but I'm not writing the mythos so my opinions are simply that.

Excellent work! The dusty monitors looked great; it really does feel like she ran in and wiped off the dust hastily. Also, good perspective on the walls, it really leads the eye toward the center of the image

Aw! Gorgeous level of detail in the room and the cyborg, and although I don't really know the characters, her pose and the contrast between his, well, cyborg-ness and the fact that he can still (sortof) hold her is very touching.

Aw really? Cry? Wow....
See the second one if you see anything else. The third one is my least favorite and the fourth is kinda mixed reviews... it's bad, but it's fun bad you know? There are parts of it that are great and there are parts that diehard fans were like "EW I HATE YOU HOLLYWOOD FOR RUINING MY FRANCHISE!" I wasn't one of those... my perception of the franchise was ruined in the third movie where they nearly punished me for being in love with the second movie.
Aliens... the second... is my favorite of the whole franchise though. If you can get your hands on it watch it in the director's cut, you get to see a lot more of the characters then and the parts that were removed deserved to be back in the film.

I love Bishop so much... he should have survived. Throwing that random "i'm his programmer" bit in there always seemed like a silly legacy. i don't know why you'd design a robot in your own likeness...its like selling yourself into slavery

Well, from the perspective of the inventor, an android in your likeness can also be an honor and a stab at immortality (however twisted it may seem).
(that and it's just a common trope in sci-fi for the creator to impose their self-image on their creations; instant Biblical allusions ftw) ¦Þ
Nice story idea too (esp. as it's meant to redeem parts of the Resurrection canon)

I guess you have a point with the immortality thing... although that hasn't scored him too well with poor bishop here, it's certainly kept Lance Hendrichson working
