Description
Hatchworth was originally a stove rebuilt into an automaton by Peter Walter himself. He is powered by a Blue Matter portal housed in his chest and accessed through a hatch in his breastplate. Most the time this interdimensional portal is abused in the kindest ways - like making sandwiches and delivering kittens, although often it becomes a means of destruction by turning the kittens into badgers and releasing them on summer tea parties. As far as war goes, Hatchy keeps a collapsable canon in there. I drew a version of this with the canon coming out, but it didn't please me so I started over. I may post the other over on my tumblr someday, but for now, this is Hatchy an inch away from launching cannonballs at you from across the abyss of time and space.Steam Powered Giraffe is a band and a lore... look them up and be appropriately impressed, please

I'm a little confused about Hatchworth's backstory now actually, because in the lore he was built by P. A. Walter but in the song he was purchased on E-bay! And now The Spine's official blog says he was bought with Walter Fun Bucks, so I don't know what to believe.

I think on stage they say WalterVI put him on ebay and the robots bot him pina colata style.

The pina colata song is the one where the husband places a personal ad in the paper looking for new and exciting affairs and his wife answers not knowing its him. So Walter -> ebay -> robots -> Walter never got rid of the robot he was selling on ebay

One day someone have to direct me to a transcript of what was said about this on-stage at Youmacon because with the mike incident, the crowd noise and the disparity between stories, I think YouTubers kinda don't get it eighter necessarilly.
It would make more sens Hatchwort being a Walter too, altought, it would mean that Walter 6th don't care anymore so much upon the secrecy of the automatons fabrication secrets.

I have a huge soft spot for Hatchy... The character joined the band about the same time I found out about them, so it feels like we we're kindred spirits - like we were in the same orientation group or something.

I can understand that. I found them about a month before The Jon left, so that was kinda painful for me. But Hatchworth makes me smile, so it all turned out fine.
Also, you made me realize that I need to do more drawings of these guys.

Jon was cute. I'm actually glad I have the perspective I do on the whole departure mess, because I can kind of see Jon not feeling passionate in, like, the Zoo videos and what not and I'm happy for him to be pursuing his own dreams. It's a shame to break a team that worked, but if it was really for the better, then I'm willing to trust them on it, and I don't have those pesky attachment emotions that are causing a lot of other people a whole lot of grief
It helps that they talked about Sam being a robot even before Jon left, so the idea was there and they weren't shoving another band member forward on stage because there was a void to fill.

I trust them on it too. I'm happy so long as they're all doing what they enjoy, and So long as the Bennetts keep making music. Sam and his moustache are and added bonus, plus have you seen Sam's art? It's amazing.
