Star Trek Stories #16 - Shadows of the Past, Part 1
This is the story of young Jean-Luc Picard.
This story is not perfect yet, and maybe I'll improve it later...
I was looking for a bit of Picard's past on Memory Beta and I tried to find out where my story could fit. So, I put this story in a time when Picard served under the captain Jan Rosenstrum. However, my story contains a slightly different version of Picard's past.

STORY:
Young ensign Jean-Luc Picard is on his first mission after the academy. He meets another young ensign named Travis Pelletier. Soon both will become good friends.
One day their ship is captured in a strange anomaly. There is nothing visible on the screen. There is also nothing on the sensors. Any attempt to release the ship from the anomaly will only make it worse. The invisible force slowly begins to pull the ship to the unknown. Pelletier has a plan to loosen the ship with brute force. He wants to detonate the photon torpedo in front of the ship, so the explosion threw the ship back. The ship is quite damaged from the attempts to escape and so far every attempt to release the ship from the anomaly has failed. Picard stops Pelletier, and suggests the captain another option - do nothing. Pelletier doesn't agree and arguing with Picard. The captain stops their fight and after a brief rethinking about their ideas, he chooses Picard's plan. The ship is pulled into the anomaly. It looks as if it gradually disappears from the front to the back, until it all disappears. The ship is thrown out of the anomaly in another part of the Alpha Quadrant. Pelletier is upset that Picard has gone against his plan. He claimed he couldn't know that the anomaly would not destroy the ship, or it would not transfer it in time or into another quadrant or galaxy. Now Picard see what kind of person Pelletier is. A young, stupid, stubborn and rude man who always has what he wants and thinks that his opinions and ideas are the only ones right. At that moment their friendship was over. Later, Pelletier was transferred to the starbase as a junior security officer, while Picard was transferred to a scientific ship on a five-month mission. They have never met again since that day...
