Description
Original Title: OddWorld - A Casual's NightmareIf you've been in my gallery long enough, you know that I have the occasional need to draw obscure video game characters, like Master Higgins, Air Zonk, Athena, Mr. Nutz, Kid Klown, and just recently Glover. This case is once again no exception.
This my friends, is Abe, from the Oddworld Franchise.
For those who are not familiar with Abe, or the Oddworld series, the franchise is a series of games that range from the PS1 to the Xbox, and 3 out of the 4 games in the franchise sees you in control of this weird guy, Abe.
Abe is a member of a fictional species called the "Mudokon", who were once raised as slaves working for the dominant "Glukkons" Race. The first game in the series "Abe's Oddysee", sees Abe as a simple worker for a Meat-Processing Plant called "Rupture Farms". However when profits start to fail due to lack of live stock used to make some of their well known products, the Chairman of Rupture Farms decides to release a new product made of "Mudokon" Meat. Desperate for escape, Abe has to gather up other Mudokon slaves and escape from Rupture Farms, all while avoiding or manipulating Guards and other vile beasts.
Now if there's one thing I can say about the game to you people, it's this. If you are a casual gamer, or just started playing video games and wanna find a good place to start, dear lord, AVOID THE ODDWORLD GAMES LIKE THE PLAGUE!!
If there's one thing Oddworld is notorious for, it's for it's brutal difficulty. The majority of the game involves avoiding hazards, communicating with others (through the game's gimmick called "GameSpeak"), and praying that you and/or other slaves don't get your asses killed or eaten. The controls for the game, aren't necessarily flawed, but they're odd, and one fatal mistake could cost you some precious time. Even though there's unlimited continues, it gets tedious to respawn at a particular checkpoint and resave Mudokons you already saved.
Aside from the brutal difficulty, odd controls, and page-turning styled levels, Abe's Oddysee is a very original game in the PS1 library, and if you are a hardcore gamer looking for a good challenge, pick it up on the PSN. It's sequel, Abe's Exoddus, is more or less similar if not the same so I guess the more the merrier murderous fun. xD
Oh, one last thing I should mention (and I hope it doesn't sound like spoilers), but what I find interesting about the Oddworld games (at least the ones starring Abe), all feature both "Good & Bad" Endings, and let me just say right now that the Bad Endings in all of the games are the most f*cked up Bad Endings you'll ever find in a video game. INFACT, if you value sleeping well tonight, do not watch the Bad Ending to the 3rd Game, Munch's Oddysee (course if you want to, than here it is. - [link] )
Anyhow, that is all.
EDIT: I felt in the mood to try a hand at the 2nd Major Character in the Oddworld Franchise, Munch, from Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, for Xbox & GBA.
Munch is a "Gabbit", a fictional race of one-legged, humanoid "frog" creatures, who were once a thriving race until the Glukkons and Vykkers (a race of ugly-ass humanoid spider/alien thingies) drove the species to near extinction. This was due to the delicacy of their eggs, which they dub Gabbiar (an obvious pun on caviar), and the fact their lungs make perfect substitutions for Glukkon lungs.
As Munch is the last of his kind, he's been searching high and low for them, but fate had other plans for him as he was eventually captured and taken to Vykkers Labs. This gets the attention of the Almighty Raisin (a huge alien-like mentor who, you guessed it, resembles a raisin), who sends Abe and several of his Mudokon "friends" to find and rescue Munch, who the Raisin believes is the key to finding the Mudokon's "Unborn Brothers", held by the Vykkers who plan to use them as their new labor force.
That's mostly the introduction of Munch's Oddysee. What goes on after is . . . really strange. Something quite unheard of in video games. But I'll leave that for you all to find out, whether you wanna actually play the game, or just look up the cutscenes on Youtube (like I did xD).
Also, anyone hear looking forward to the upcoming HD Oddworld remakes? As far as I'm aware we're supposed to be getting HD remakes of Munch's Oddysee, and Stranger's Wrath soon. =3

Have fun when you do!
Abe's games are by far the most popular but my favourite is Stranger's Wrath, it's even more original and fun and at least equally meaningful.

Yep...the Fuzzles blew Abe and Munch's cover in the Bad Ending...is it bad I find the lung transplant scene funny, in a "dark humor" way?

They do have some free-2-play games, including the NOW free-2-play Team Fortress 2. They also have a wide variety of games to play, but you'd have to buy them. You might be lucky if there are certain games you like are on sale, or getting their spotlight for deal of the day.

I see.
Do you have to pay anything just to start Steam or have a Membership or anything like that?
Reason I ask is that I might wanna get Steam, especially for the Oddbox (which I know you have to pay for, but it's a hell of a deal in my book). xD

Steam is free of charge! Once you sign up, you're a member instantly. The games are purchasable. Once you buy them, you keep them forever in the account.

Okay, and I noticed on the front page it said "install Steam".
I'm assuming it's mainly a program that you operate to play games?

lol, really? xD
. . . . . well I can't argue with that, since you don't see me drawing surrealistic characters like Abe often, if at all. xD

I do play Munch's Oddysee though. It's a fun game. The only way to avoid the bad ending is if you save most of your friends from danger.
There are some people who enjoyed the Oddworld series, maybe because it's the character design or how beautiful (or gritty) the environments are.
