Description
He had to find out who and whatthe arrivals were. So he rode to the shore,
this horseman of Hrothgar's, and challenged them
in formal terms, flourishing his spear.
From Seamus Heaney's translation of Beowulf.
A scene that's always amused me, because Denmark's a little light on 'sheer crags' and 'looming headlands'. Jutland has some wonderful wide beaches, but little in the way of cliffs. Luckily I live pretty close to some imposing cliffs so had a fair few references. Thanks to for the horseman reference Border Reiver 23
Happy with the composition. Colour was a challenge. Hope I got this right...
Pencil, ink, whiteout, paint and digital. Comments welcome!

I like the moody atmosphere of this piece. I really feel like I'm moving with the horse. Nice work!

Thank you. Like the confident use of colour in your work. Something I lack sometimes!
