Description
A while back I noticed a lot of images of Thor being done. I'm not sure if there was a reason or if it was all just a coincidence that so many people were drawing the norse god of thunder at the same time. Probably just movie hype. Well after seeing this image [link] by my buddy Karl (check out his work), I was inspired to do a quick sketch of my own. Rather than think of this as a black version of Thor, remember that many cultures share similar mythologies and iconography. This is actually my version of Shango the Yoruba god of thunder. The Yoruba people are from West Africa, however I believe there are versions of the same god in the Caribbean and Latin America. The spellings vary but the origin is likely the the same.Related content

You're right, here (Brasil) he's called XangΓ΄ (basically the same pronunciation) and carry a double blade axe instead of a hammer, nice depiction.

No, thank YOU for being one of the smart ones who know that mythology lies beyond European and Japanese cultures.[link]
