an old adversary resurfaces, who caught and used Jana as bait to lure Alec to him. As a means to hurt him, the Sith afflicted Jana with a force plague, and contested that if he wants her to live, that alec will have to do something for him in return...
This was an idea about how far he would go to protect her, even if it would lead down a dark path...
i thought alec had a very almost Anakin-like sentiment...
