i was kind of hesitant to post this, eep.please don't hate me for taking whats probably the most cliche fantasy trope in existence and applying it to dashie here o;w;o I just thought it'd be cute on a poneee
erm, lemme try and at least explain
the way i see it, most of it's not metal, but a more flexible, enchanted material that is made to -look- like metal. And she's totally aware of its non-use in battle- its completely for show, but she's happy enough because as we've seen, rainbow does like trying out various outfits.
if -anything-, i think its kind of funny to headcanon that Rarity, being Rarity, designed it.. with Spike's help >.> like, i could see a nerd-ish boy who lives with a nerd-ish pseudo-sibling suggesting Impractical Fantasy Armor™ ideas to his crush, lol.
also shading style is in flux, hopefully for the better..?

Also, Spike helping Rarity design some outfits is very much headcanon material. He seems like a dude who wouldn't discard sewing as something girly, because hey, it's an useful skill.
Your clothes will need stitching up some time (especially if your body is covered in scales that have plenty of rough and possibly sharp edges), and it's not like you'll always have someone to do it for you. This is very much Spike.
