Description "Oh, shit. I've heard this guy doesn't fuck around." -A hapless purse snatcher
"It's not like that's ever stopped heroes from calling themselves 'Captain' even when they have no military background." -Damnsel
"Theo, it's your mother. Why haven't you called me?" -Captain Miracle's mom

CODE NAME: Captain Miracle
REAL NAME: Theodore Jackson
HEIGHT: 6'3" (190.5 cm)
AFFILIATION: Paradigm Agency of Superheroes (PASH)
WORK STATUS: Full-time superhero

POWERS/SKILLS: Captain Miracle has no superhuman abilities. However, he doesn't let this stop him. In regards to superhero work, he doesn't ask if he can do something, but how. He's a pragmatic, efficient fighter.Β
WEAKNESSES: He's ultimately a human being, with all the drawbacks that come with it.

BACKGROUND: In high school, Theo noticed a kid named Zach who got bullied quite a bit. Theo ignored it until Zach took his own life. Soon afterward, Theo found himself picking fights with school bullies. He got the snot kicked out of him, but kept coming back for more, and soon enough, he started to win fights. Looking to fight more bullies, Theo pursued a superhero career. He's been beating them up since then.
PERSONALITY: Theo's generally a nice guy. He's good natured, has a sense of humor, and has a strong sense of justice. As Captain Miracle, though, his mean streak comes out. He enjoys fighting, and that fact bothers him. He sometimes wonders if the only difference between him and his foes are the direction he points his fists.
Ultimately, some consider Theo the most wholesome person they've met. Others think he's all right, but a bit of a stick-in-the-mud. Regardless, everyone knows he's dependable and keeps his word.

RANDOM TIDBITS
-Theo's a devout Christian and attends church every Sunday.
-He rarely swears. When he does, it's typically a shock to those who know him.
-Social drinker.
-Dabbles in acoustic guitar.
-I once made a comic (Another Phone Call ) where his mother mentions his brother, who has a statue in front of city hall ("Why don't you have a statue, Theo?"). I still haven't decided if that's canon or not.
-His superhero mentor was Martin Price, better known to the city as The Gold Cavalier. They've remained friends since, and Martin and his wife consider Theo part of their family.
-When I first started coming up with Paradigm City and its characters, Captain Miracle had luck as his superpower. By the time I wrote his first story, that had changed from a supernatural influence to being his own attitude and skill (i.e., he makes his own luck).
-Virgin.

Yaay, character profiles!

I like the simple cowl/no cowl image to illustrate how he looks - he is very lovely. Convinced the cowl has some sort of magical system for fitting his fluffy hair in it

He's a really interesting idea - heroes don't need to have superhuman abilities, as long as they have enough determination, abilities, wits - preferably a fair amount of all three.

Gold Cavalier is a good name, I wonder if he knew my Crimson Cavalier if he's been around for a while

"he is very lovely"
From Julius in Skyrim to Roland and Captain Miracle, I've gotten good responses from women about my male characters' appearances (no feedback from guys yet). I once showed some of my work at a church talent show, and heard a girl say, "Oh!" when I showedΒ  .

When was Crimson Cavalier active? My characters are set in what I call "vaguely 80s," so Gold Cavalier's heyday was probably "vaguely 60s."

Heh, I only read you mention the sort-of-80s thing in one of the next few profiles, I had always assumed they were modern-day. So actually it might be the other way around, CC wasn't until the early 90s

I need to do the same kind of things with mine, but I'm lazy...

Didn't he have "luck" powers or something at some point?

That was his original concept, but it was gone by the time I wrote the first story. You're not the first to ask me about that, though, so I'll add it to the tidbits.

I can easily imagine Captain Miracle volunteering in schools during his spare time.

I've written before that superheroes regularly address kids at school assemblies. Most of them leave out the lurid details of their lives and motivations. Most of them.

I imagine Captain Miracle would be particularly involved in anti-bullying school programs. He might even share Zach's story to the students then in the hopes of preventing more such tragedies.

From one of my stories:

Like many other superheroes, he sometimes attended assemblies at local schools. It was practically tradition for superheroes to explain why they first decided to put on a costume and fight crime. Faculty always expected heroes to share one of the β€œcorrect” explanations.
β€œMy family is rich, and I decided to give back!” Manta Ray would say instead of, β€œI’m rich, bored, and starved for attention.”
β€œThe darker the cloud, the shinier the lining!” was always Dynamite Diva’s go to quote, thankfully never telling kids how being in perilous situations helped get her rocks off.
β€œBecause I saw my father’s brains blown out by a crack dealer and it screwed me up for life,” said the Gold Cavalier. That was the first and last time Captain Miracle's mentor was ever invited to an assembly.
Captain Miracle always told students that bullies are bad, but kids can be superheroes in their own school by sticking up for each other. He never added, β€œI know this because I ignored Zach’s trouble with bullies for a long time, and Zach ultimately killed himself. That’s my handy excuse for beating people for a living. Stay in school, kids!”

Hmmm, so wouldn't say it in an assembly, how about to an individual student who had come to him in private? A student who would ask "What do I do? The teachers won't (or can't seem to) help. How do I stop this?"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Janus3003 In reply to the-exiled-muse [2019-08-18 18:13:14 +0000 UTC]

It's possible. Not a bad idea. Might also depend on the age range he's talking to.

Agreed. How old was Miracle when Zach killed himself? That could be a good age, give or take a couple years.
