Description
Squire Kort of Levenport is the youngest of Sir Felix and Lady Viini's five sons. His brothers all insisted on becoming priests of the Church of the Highest One, and Sir Felix was desperate for someone to carry on the knightly name. The timid Kort was the only one without enough of a backbone to refuse. At age seven, he left home to train under the tutelage of Sir Jesper of Norwood. Here he met Bassi, who quickly befriended him and helped him in his knightly training. Sadly for Kort, Bassi left a year later to become the squire of Sir Gideon of Devonshire. Kort more or less fended for himself, despite being quickly written off as "that kid who will be the first to die in battle someday."At age fourteen, Kort officially became a squire to Sir Kaj of Plennworth. This relationship did not last long, as Sir Kaj died in the Battle of Plennworth. Kort's next master, Sir Kent, also soon fell in his quest for the Sacred Girdle of St. Semion. When the next knight Kort served, Lady Reena, perished in an ambush by bandits, Kort quickly earned the epithet, "the Bad Luck Charm." Ashamed, Kort returned to his home in Levenport. A few months later, Lady Bassi sought lodging in Kort's home. Their friendship rekindled, and Bassi asked Kort to be her squire. Eager to please his disappointed father, Kort agreed and left with Bassi.
Since that day, Kort has traveled with Lady Bassi on her many adventures. So far, she has not died in spite of his reputation. More than once he's shrunk in the heat of battle, closing his eyes and swinging his weapon wildly. He's somehow survived every time, and even slain attackers in the midst of his blind flurries of blows. Bassi's fame and glory rubs off onto him as well, and he often finds himself the center of unwanted attention.
Squire Kort of Levenport is kind and softhearted, but also persevering. He may be scared out of his wits in most situations, yet somehow he pushes on and stays by Lady Bassi's side through thick and thin. She insists that he'll one day make a gallant knight himself. He isn't so sure.

AfterΒ 's writeup, I figured it'd be nice to know a little more about Kort. So here he is. And man, do I love dForce for its ability to make Kort's sleeve move properly.

"Squire Kort of Levenport" has such a nice ring to it.
Great backstory. He might be bad luck for his previous knights, but I think he possesses good luck for himself. I mean he's serving with a formidable (and sexy) adventuress and he recently earned a smackeroo from Aura Lockhaven, no less. Bad luck? I beg to differ.

The bards will have an easy time coming up for rhymes with his name, I imagine.
I imagine that every time Kort gets down on himself for being bad luck, Bassi suddenly needs help with taking off her armor and scrubbing her back.

Yay, fuzzy blankets! Does Telki make them out of shed fur?

they just appear in her hands. I think they're felted blankets, which is technically shed fur...?

Aura's hero!
A kindhearted squire often grows into the model of a knight, one who remembers his vows to serve and protect. So, he has a strong sense of self-preservation. His sense of right and honor will eventually temper that. Bassi has a good one.

He just needs a bit more of a backbone and then he'll be leading everyone into a golden age in no time. Maybe he'll be able to look at a woman without freaking out by then.
