Mario is a jerky jerk towards Sonic, cause he thinks he is higher (both in position and mentality) I mean he has the seniority and the legacy to prove it , tho Mario doesn't DESPISE Sonic and actually cared for him and helped him when he's down, tho he also make sure that Sonic doesn't top over his title and pride. But other than that, he does sympathize with him. (Also, I see Mario as an aggressive character)
Sonic...well I don't really do much for his head canon, but from what I thought, he's basically like Mario's side kick. He knows he has to deal to be Mario's punching bag, but he since he did start a console war, he kinda deserve it in a way. Tho, he'll stop if Mario goes too far.
