There is little difference between Batman and L. They are the emodiments of the dark detectives. They are both men who seek not just justice, but a sense of dark justice. The only difference is L did not have to worry about looking into the abyss that created Batman, he sought to solve crime and end any injustice in any ways necessary. That all changed when L died. In his state of nothingness, he saw the dark abyss that awaited him upon his return. The darkness that had created Batman. Now that he has returned....L could use the darkness that now haunts him, or expel it and seek a new life
