Angel's most iconic line of the whole episode, and every vulgar thing that comes out of Angel's mouth is iconic, so that is saying something. XD on the Mojo Jojo wannabe finally being stupefied into silence, if only for a few moments. Gods, I thought that disgrace to the race of nagas would never shut up, despite it being the voice of the hilariously irreverent narrator for BattleBlock Theater behind Sir Pentious' constantly moving lips.

This really was the best joke for me, probably the only one that got more than a snort. Not to say I didn't enjoy the show, I did.

Nope, not a fan. I've seen better nagas that have wittier dialogue in other fictional universes. Not to mention the nagas, and their female counterparts the naginis, of Hindu mythology are likened to sirens and also Gorgons from Greece.

I don't know much about the making of series cus I don't really follow Vivziepop, but is he supposed to be a naga? I kinda thought he was just a silly snake lol

They are akin to being "the land version of merpeople" with the head and upper body of a human and the lower body of a snake, although there are versions that are fully serpent. Capable of human speech and intelligence, and generally violent or bloodthirsty, these snake demon creatures are not to be trifled with. Cedric from the W.i.t.c.h. comics, Coulbert from Slavic mythology, Vasuki (the "great snake" of Hindu mythology, coiled around Shiva's neck), and monsters in both Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons are all examples of nagas. And Nagini, Voldemort's immortal snake companion from the Harry Potter series, is directly named after the female version.
It baffles me that a very Eurocentric character like Sir Pentious would be themed after a Hindu demon, both in visual design and in naming (I actually thought his name was Serpentius before seeing the official spelling online because of the naga connection.) Then again, India was a British colony for a long while in the midst of consolidating power between the various kingdoms in different regions of India.

Yeah, I've heard of them before, but idk...I guess I just didn't connect this character to them at all. I guess I just saw more the snake symbolism that the West has, you know...sneaky, treacherous, etc. I saw him more like Voldemort than a Naga. Anywho, thanks for the information!

You are welcome. In action, Sir Pentious reminded me of Mojo Jojo from the Powerpuff girls: loves to gas off about his plans, in a very drawn out and self-glorifying way, while not actually being very nefarious compared to TRUE villains. Alastor proved it at the end of the pilot when finally grounding the wannabe overlord with minimal effort.

I would literally crack up if that "disgrace to the name of naga" became a running gag character, much like I suspect Baxter the Anglerfish Scientist will be. I have this head canon that while Baxter doesn't come out of his lab in the basement/his hotel room much, he is frequently responsible for the service repairs needed because of explosions and shenanigans caused by his experiments. Mr "I have a tail covered with eyes instead of legs" causing trouble in a "notice me and take me seriously!" kind of way is something I envision quite easily as well.

Oh. Baxter is one of the Hazbin Hotel denizens who DID NOT appear in the pilot. However, there was an anglerfish with a blue lure in Charlie's little pitch song for the Happy Hotel, a cameo nod to Baxter.
