lol they had a contest to see what would be the official mascot of DeviantArt, it came down to three and they held a poll to vote [link] fella [link] created by `switched and posted on april 29th 2001 won by 132 points to the second place "the Deviant" [link] by ~professor
there was also a "seizure" version made by `switched and posted the same day [link]
im researhing the history of D.A. and lol i guess i better not use wickepedia!

but i haven't heard him lord it over anyone
i haven't hear him use it as an excuse either

Also, no i wouldn't be angry in jark's position
because he seems to have brought it upon himself
he SEEMS to be one of those people that won't give up things to make others happy

Also, if he's so great then what did he do with all that money for the court trial?

I don't hate him or anything. or worship $spyed
i just find it kinda pathetic that he'd stoop this low

Actually he didn't. Jark and Matteo were the initial founders of this website, although there's no denying that Spyed has had an extremely large part to play in DA's history.
But no one that begins such a successful project should be shunted out by other members. It's corporate backstabbing at it's worst and unfortunately it happens all the time.
I know I would certainly be just as bitter as Jark, if not more so, if in his position. If I founded DA, I certain would NOT be willing to just let my baby go in order for my fellow staff members 'to be happy'.
Jark's removal and Matteo's subsequent resignation has been the worst thing that ever happened to this website. In Spyed hands DA has very quickly become an over commercial, over censored community that doesn't listen to it's members for anything but superfluous issues. It's very clear that the DA staff's top priority is now money and sponsors. I for one miss the days when Jark and Matteo were still here, those were DA's glory days.

And how is this stooping low? To highlight someone tampering with the DA Wiki page?

He started this project with Jark
Jark SUGGESTED the hire Matteo and Spyed agreed
Jark did some code. Matteo did some code. Spyed delt with the money.


In what way is this corporate anything?
jark is still aloud on DA and if he wanted to he could get back in there

Spyed as far as i can see has done a good job

Well, personally I think randomly going onto one of the old Moderators gallery just to tell him that you don't like or support him is rather low and rude. I don't much care for Spyed, but you don't see me rushing over to his gallery to tell him that.

I've been here on DA for well over 5 years now and I've seen it go through many changes. DA's glory days were when Jark and Matteo were still in charge and this site was about real DEVIANT art and the moderators actually listened to their members, valued their opinions and communicated with them properly when there were problems. They cared more about pleasing the members of this site than making money and pleasing their sponsors. It was just... a nicer, friendlier, more relaxed place to be.
Whether it is completely Spyed's being in change or not, but since the leaving of Jark and Matteo it's become less Deviant art, more conservative art. Members are ignored, or banned with little or no communication. Strict new censorship rules have been put in place and enforced by contradictory, often unfair Mods who fail to properly communicate with members.
According to DA's new rules, the famous Renaissance painting of Venus would have to be put under a 'Mature' rating and many famous and beautiful Japanese Ukiyo-E paintings wouldn't even be allowed here anymore.

And to be honest, I did leave DA for a while. It's very sad to see a website you love go downhill. I still love a lot of the artists here and it's nice to get feedback for my artwork from other members, which is why I've stayed, but I've been finding myself increasingly frustrated with this website's over-the-top new censorship rules and the over-zealous Mods that enforce them.

And I suggest you read the story of what happened from all the different points of view before you make your decisions and not just go by the things you hear from the admin or Spyed. There were a lot of inaccuracies put out from all different directions during the whole Jark, Matteo and DA scandal.

1) I'm looking through his stuff and pointing out my opinions, and come on. have a look at Jarks gallery, it's ALL about how much he rocks or spyed sucks since he left
2) umm, DA admins and such still do talk to the community, it's just it's so big now that some get left out. i get great help and advice from my admin friends and those i've met
3) Jark was never 'in charge'. Jark and Spyed were in it together. Both. not just Jark. so it's not fair to say when jark ran it it was better, because he did his bit, spyed did his bit, but neither of them 'ran the site'.
4) the rules are there for a reason ya know
5) hang on. Because you thought DA was going downhill you abandoned it?.....well that's just plain selfish.
6) Why don't you become a mod if you think you could do a better job?
7) I've read every version i can find, and i support spyed over it. Why? he stuck around, that's why. Jark could still help, but he's buggered off to god knows where. and i think the main reason i don't believe Jark is he took peoples money in trust, so where is the dam lawsuit or whatever he was doing with it?. Also, he used his kid to try and win people over, that to me is low. And where is Matteo anyways? just because him and Jark arn't "kings of the castle" anymore doesn't mean they couldn't help.
Anywho, the point is, unless i see any actual point to believe Jark i won't. cause ALL i've seen from his side is
A) Spyed sucks!
B) look at my kid cry
C) i don't want a war
D) give me money
i just don't see why i should believe a man that says he doesn't want to stoop down to low levels but then does it himself.

1) It's his gallery to fill. And I don't really see anything to say that 'he rocks'. I can see he's a little bitter and to be honest, I would be too in his situation. I think that you would be too, and you can't say 'I wouldn't'! Because you've never been in a situation such as this.
Personally I found Spyed latest journal post, hanging out all the dirty laundry issues that arise amongst his staff and the members of the site to be much more distasteful than anything Jark has here.

2) Well I'm glad that you seem to have had a positive experience, but many people I know, as well as myself, haven't. And I'm comparing the way the staff used to treat it's members to how they do now. As I've said, I've been here long enough to actually see the way this site has changed and it's certainly not been for the better in the way of customer service. The staff have started enforcing their bizarre rules in a very contradictory and often hypocrite way and their common sense and communication skills are severally lacking.

3) Regardless, DA was certainly a nicer place to be with Jark and Matteo still in place, whether it was down to them that the site was better and more about real art I don't know. All I know is, that's the way it way.

4) Yes, to keep the numerous sponsors coming in. Controversial art = less sponsors = less money.
This site always advertises it's self as 'creative freedom', as 'being a beautiful thing where artists are free to express themselves'. Well no. Not any more it isn't. The rules are becoming more and more paranoid and being enforced in a very unpredictable manner. When you realise that the most extraordinary and famous of classical artists such as Botticelli and Hishikawa Moronobu would have their galleries either censored or banned on this website, you realise that the true meaning of 'art' has been sucked from this website. It's more about what is 'acceptable' and 'olitically correct'.

5) Excuse me? One minute you're saying "If I don't like DA why am I still here?", the next you're accusing me of being selfish for periodically leaving! I don't think you have any right to be calling me anything! You don't know me, or the situation surrounding my brief leaving and it's extremely arrogant of you to just assume! Keep your stuck-up insults to yourself thank you very much. Up until now we'd been having quite a mature discussion.

6) What a silly thing to say. If I was in a high position of authority on this website (and getting paid to do that) I would have to bear the responsibility that went with it. If you think a movie is terrible, do you complain about it to friends or just think 'Oh well, I suppose I couldn't make a better movie, I'll just keep my opinions to myself'?

7) Of course Syped has stuck around. He's racking the cash in from this website! Why would he leave?! I'm sure he has a lot of passion for this place too of course, but Jark got the elbow and Matteo obviously found that the situation surrounding his friend being pushed out of the company he helped create extremely unfair and felt he had to leave. And why should either Jark or Matteo stick around to 'help' in their spare, unpaid time? The company decided that it didn't need them anymore, so why continue working for someone when they've made it clear they don't want you around. Jark can clearly see that this website has changed... It doesn't look or act much like the vision they all had to begin with... so why stay? There's no point. He doesn't owe anything to anyone here.

And if you don't like Jark so much, why not follow the advice you gave to me "If you don't like it so much why are you still here?". Well, if you don't like Jark so much, why are you on his gallery telling him so? Doesn't that seem a rather arrogant thing to do? As I said, you don't see me randomly telling every Mod I dislike how much I 'don't support them'.

Anyway, this debate is becoming overly complicated. I'm not trying to convince you to like Jark or agree that this website isn't about true art anymore, I'm just saying that it's rather petty of you to specially come to Jark's gallery just to express such a negative opinion. That's what your own DA journal is for.

1)Well i think Spyed last journal was rather good, but i suppose not everyone thinks like me, and not everyone thinks like you .
2)I've not been here as long as you so i'm not sure how they used to be, but from what I've seen they seem to be doing a more than adequate job, allthough i'm not really much of an artist so i might not see the side of them that you guys do
3) I think theres still just as much 'real art', infact, there's probably more of it. The problem is with more and more people joining, there's more and more 'noob' art and porn (not that i'm really again porn) which drowns out the other art. theres also alot more people into it for friends and such than there used to be. But i'm pretty sure this is a popularity thing more than a 'whos running it' thing. YouTube probably started off well, but now it's popular the shit outnumber the good 100 to one, maybe that's whats happening here
4) But if you were running a buisness would you want the KKK sticking a "join us and kill the nigers" sticker on your shop window? no, because you'd get assosiated with them and get in trouble. I think that's what DA is doing too, they're just trying to play it safe. It's no longer "just some fun", this is a full on buisness, and as you know buisness's have to be acountable for there actions. I know the system needs some work but at the moment this is the best way that they can come up with to keep most people moderatly happy
5) That was an insault? we are having a mature conversation, and of course i don't know the situation, unless you want to explain it to me i HAVE to make choices based upon what i know. The point that i was TRYING to make is this, good people say DA's just full of noobs and what have you, so they leave, guess who's left? the noobs and what have you. i just ment that you should stick around and try to make it better. I really didn't mean to insault you and i am very sorry if i did, i do have a lot of problem making a point sometimes and i didn't mean that in the way it sounded. thank you for pointing this out because it will help me to avoid saying that in future
6) Well, i try to come up with a better way to do it actually. If i didn't like a movie i ask myself "why didn't i like that movie, and how could it have gone better". I try not to say "that movie was sh*t" without a "because" after it.
7)if by company you mean DA then i'm afraid i have to point out that there is no "company". Spyed got a job doing this yes, because he bothered to stick around. there are SOME paid admins, but most a voluntary and unpaid. Also, i don't know exactly why Jark was kicked so if i'm missing out on something do tell me.
About the "him not oweing anything" bit, neither does spyed, neither do you, neither does most of the people on DA, but they stick around and try to help

I was just saying it was a bit childish. I'm not flamming him, i just thought as an adult he could take it, but aparently not.
And my "if you don't like it then why are you still here?" was actually about Jark. You have problems with DA and it's (quote)ruler(end quote) but you stick around, so why can't he?

I do not want to put it in my DA journal because i am not pointing it out to my watchers or anyone that stumbles across my page. I like to go to the source isntead of shouting "JARK SUCKS! WHAT A POO POO PANTS! ". I wanted HIM to know my opinion, not any random that watches me

The have a nice day thing was simply something I'm starting to do at the bottom of all my 'debates' because otherwise people think i'm getting angry or what have you when i'm completly calm. if you can come up with a better way of pointing this out then i would very much apreciate that

Wikipedia stores all edits to an article for history sake. Jark merely viewed and took a screen shot of a revision dated before the changes where made.

There's a lot of different stories going around about what happened and how the wikipedia article should be written. At the moment you'll find people will undo any major changes to Sotira's position in the article.
