Description
Here's little something for the fans of Red Alert 2, who will even with the upcoming RA3, never again see such an inventive, playable game. Since its now in the hands of EA, i have doubts - overall their games are shooting more for fancy graphics and broader consumer public, which inevitably sacrifices fun in a game. Yet, i hope, for it is in human nature, but still expect more from Petroglyph (crew of former Westwood - RA creator), and many non widely known game developers. To end this whining on my side, ill just add that two of my fav companies unfortunately ceased to exist: Westwood and New World Computing.Related content

Your argument about reaching the same fame as RA2 holds absolutely no water because it just came out last October. As a matter of fact, the in-game music scores are quite rockin'. And I've played the game. It's one thing to theorize and speculate and bash on EA due to it's reputation as a graphics hog. It's another thing to have an actual hands-on experience. I've bashed and scorned EA for a long time ever since I first played C&C tiberium wars, that game was horrible. But when I played RA3, I knew that game was different from all the new and flashy C&C series. It gave me the same experience as when I first played RA2 and RA1 and even when I first played StarCraft, the most unsurpassed RTS game in history. It looks like EA has learned some lessons after all. RA3's gameplay is fast and versatile. So versatile, in fact, that I'm forced to use no less than 5 types of units in order to win, instead of just spamming one unit as much as possible. And I can't win a battle without constantly looking out for my units because if I would just use attack-moves on them and leave them alone, they'd be gone in seconds. I can tell you, RA3 contains all the winning formulas of a great RTS and is going to be a success.

actually, i have hands-on experience; game is sweet, water is amazing, units are really creative and refreshing; rock tunes are quite rocking even though official OST doesnt have all songs - id kill for that tension filled battle metal tune with choirs...
terror drones lack more speed to be terror, subs need to position themselves straight in front of target to shoot, so when enemy skips right pass them they take forever to start shooting.
yes, you do need 5 types of units to win, but thats what you need every time cuz its one of very few different strategies here >.>' unit specialization brought the game to that.
dont worry, i havent wrote off RA3 automatically like many of them do 3 is a good game in its own right.
just... all this flashiness wont take RA2 of his throne, thats all.

the less you expect, the less you're gonna be disappointed
still, i would very much like either for the title to be sold to Petroglyph, or for the EA to get more serious.

thx guys.
@halovore
graphics are good, and water effects are great on trailer, but they just cannot get that soviet touch.
halfnaked chick for russia in the '50.-'60.s? net way... soviets rioting? government hostile towards civilians? conscripts less cool than in ra2 and without armor? buildings so not soviet! no nukes? shrinking rays? pppft... >.<

Red Alert 3 is actually pretty sweet! Being a player and fan of StarCraft Brood War and Red Alert 2 for almost 10 years, I've long critiqued real-time strategy games which do not meet the requirements of fine balance, fun gameplay and vibrant graphics. And I can tell you, Red Alert 3 has met those requirements with flying colors!

human in me still hopes that, when EA finally makes sh** out of cnc, they will sell it back to Petro and they will return it to its former glory... but thats just human in me, and what do humans know?
