Description Here's little something for the fans of Red Alert 2, who will even with the upcoming RA3, never again see such an inventive, playable game. Since its now in the hands of EA, i have doubts - overall their games are shooting more for fancy graphics and broader consumer public, which inevitably sacrifices fun in a game. Yet, i hope, for it is in human nature, but still expect more from Petroglyph (crew of former Westwood - RA creator), and many non widely known game developers. To end this whining on my side, ill just add that two of my fav companies unfortunately ceased to exist: Westwood and New World Computing.

Symply wondeful!
I saw red alert during a birthday of my friend when it came out (it was 2000-2001 I think)...at first I was impressed, but then I forget about it Years later I played a lot RA2 with enthusiasm, and this made me to buy RA3 three moths ago. RA3 is good, great graphic etc etc, but the one who made the story is RA2, or even the first C&C...
RA2 problably could change the "way to play" of a person: infact, if I play other RTS (that are much more complicated) I'll be bored in few days; rhis doesn't happen with a RA game...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JarmenKell In reply to JackVice91 [2009-03-16 15:57:38 +0000 UTC]

yeah, in RA2 im bored only with predictable AI tactics, but for PvsP its GODLIKE! there's another game that's been made quite recently which also has great replay-ability - Universe at War! and guess what? its work of guys that are ex-Westwood aka same ones that made RA ^^
EA took all things that were perfectly balanced in RA2 and overexagerated them, so RA3 is more of a RA2 humorless parody than a worthy descendant.

Red Alert 3 did actually continue the series in a respectable manner.

ok, i respect your opinion, but it will not affect mine a lot cuz you were around seven when RA2 came out and it certainly didnt change your life like it did mine

Hey, I grew up with Red Alert 2 in the Egyptian net cafe's, it affected my child hood, if not more, then yours.

And I do confidently say Red Alert 3 continued the series in a respectable manner.

"...if not more, then yours"
we could never measure that
...and as i said, i respect that - especially if it is a firm one. as for me, i'd pick RA2 over 3 any time, and will fight EA's Borg-like tendencies till the day i die.

EALA is a bunch of C&C fans too, look at one of their biggest employees, Greg Kasavin, he used to work for Gamestop and wrote most of all the reviews for C&C games after Red Alert. He is big player in what made C&C famous to begin with. And EALA DOES listen to the fans, if you play RA3: Uprising, you'll realize that they added a cryo legionare, which's whole theme came from a forum suggestion. And the amount of work put into RA3 is tremendous, the physics system, the flawless balance, the weatlh of originality, the amazing multiplayer matches I've had in RA3 certainly beat RA2's tank spam/late game turtle wars.

I do like RA2 over RA3, but that's my childhood speaking, and RA3 certainly does feel like a true sequel to RA2.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JarmenKell In reply to neosquidly [2009-03-17 09:23:28 +0000 UTC]

unfortunately, the EALA listening fans thing IS what brings trouble in the first place... as same as in political/ideological system, not one of them can ever satisfy all the mankind's needs. thats why they listen to the majority, which currently happens to be boobage/wrestling/realityshow obsessed teenage population. one thing is making games out of love, all the others are out of love for money. Petroglyph and Relic Studios are my favs now, and that's my ethical and aesthetical matureness speaking.
btw, that new Desolator? SUCKS. Shrinking rays? SUCKSS! personality of these new ho shaped actresses? S.U.C.K.
THIS is natural acting: [link]

Err... You haven't played Red Alert 3 have you? The game, mind the campaign, is brilliant. And the shrinking ray brings lots of luls and a really big tactical thought process into it, you can sneak mcv's into places undetected, or too quick for people, but at a loss of your armor.

Red Alert 3 is actually pretty sweet! Being a player and fan of StarCraft Brood War and Red Alert 2 for almost 10 years, I've long critiqued real-time strategy games which do not meet the requirements of fine balance, fun gameplay and vibrant graphics. And I can tell you, Red Alert 3 has met those requirements with flying colors!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JarmenKell In reply to SgtHK [2008-11-26 10:25:59 +0000 UTC]

yeah, but has it reached the fame of RA2? does it have that awesome installation, or music playlist? or maybe free download-able game music like Universe at War has? trust me, if it were legal, EA would put a price on air we're breathing. capitalism just complicates and speeds up the life we're living...
Westwood always payed attention to small details that make you lose breath or laugh to tears when you notice them.

like comparing real and toy chainsaw they both look like chainsaws, and with a harmless simplified colorful toy you can yell NEEEAAAWWWW!! as much as you like, but can it get you warm when winter comes?
