Even I grew up watching transformers and some macross/robotech. Although I never got into drawing convertible mechs as much as just other types of mecha. But I figured I would give a try at designing some shifty robotic vehicles.

This was just a curiosity and it's unlikely I'll draw more transformers. Personally it's not something I see the realistic mechs I draw can do. Transformable machines require a lot of moving parts that greatly increase the weaknesses and potential of failure of a mech. I mean, we barely have transformable machines today, and if it's meant for combat there are practically no transforming vehicles today and I doubt we will see any in the foreseeable future. But i'll admit it was still interesting to draw some transformers.

As far as this being a thing, I guess it can be an in-universe piece of media in the Colony Wars 2060. Movies in the 2060s include more mechs with how cheap the tactical mech is to make. So a certain franchise with transformable robots gets a makeover with actual mechs. They don't transform in reality, but the transition between robot form and vehicle is handled with CGI. In the lore of this franchise these transformable mechs are a combo of civilian vehicles and military vehicles that fight with the US military against the evil robots that have allied with the Chinese and russians. This franchise has spawned toys and video games that the new generation of kids enjoy in the 2060s
