Description
This is one of the all-time heavy hitters from the pages of D&D, the godzilla of pen & paper fantasy, THE Tarrasque!Done for the upcoming D&D reference card deck from Cardamajigs. They asked me if I could draw one iconic D&D monster, what would it be. And well, that was easy. I've drawn art for D&D for almost two decades, so I've done plenty of almost everything in the game. But never have I had the chance to draw one of these, until now.

Could a tarrasque beat Tiamat?

Out of curiosity, I've taken a look for myself. It seems the tarrasque has no means of actually hurting Tiamat on its own due to her immunities, while the latter has a lot of stuff at her disposal.

So if Tarrasque is D7D's godzilla, Tiamat is it's King Ghidorah?

You could definitely say that.

I once used one of these in a Sailor Moon Play by Post RPG. It was crazy. All the Sailor Scouts and two OC's had to fight it. School girls aren't that good against legendary monsters.

This is outstanding work. The creatures size and power is just so well captured in this.

This is an amazing tribute to one of D&D's ultimate beasts. I love it so much more than the one available in the 3rd Ed. Monster Manual (my apologies to the dear artist who had the task to illustrate Mr. T back then). You've added a terrific amount of detail, much-needed perspective, and raw power to its pose.

yeah, its a favorite of mine too. And with a creature like this one, the more epic the better.

I've always found this monster to be ridiculously stupid, thrown in just to mess with players. Yet you managed to make it look awesome!

Awesome work! The Tarrasque is always one of the monsters from D&D that sticks in my mind the most as well. My friend and I would always joke about throwing it into each campaign just because of how stupidly powerful it was. lol

I always looked at it as more of a titanic, god like threat, the kind of thing that only goes into a campaign as a larger device to steer the players away from a fight, rather than serve as a simple, overpowered, combat challenge. But it also works well against characters who are just so high level, that dragons don't scare them even a little bit anymore and they need an epic level threat.

Yeah, we never actually threw it in as an encounter, we just joked about the concept of it. I mean, even killing the thing wasn't good enough, you had to have a high level wizard to cast a Wish spell for it to STAY dead on top of that haha (At least in the editions we played. Not sure if it's been altered much or not). I've only ever played one campaign were the characters actually go to a level that might have been able to fight it, but even then they probably wouldn't have lasted long.

thanks! it was fun to try and work at such a large scale, and create enough depth and detail to make it all work.
