Gary Gygax (creator of Dungeons & Dragons ) died this week.
Given my many nerdy ramblings, perhaps it will not surprise you to hear that throughout my teenage years (and beyond), the pursuit of adventure and treasure, via tabletop RPGs , took up a significant amount of my free time.
This one's for you, Gary!

I've always wanted to try one of those but i think low availability of games, lack of similarly interested friends and a not even enough free time/money meant i never did. I love this comic, he looks cool, whatever the 20 gets him to do

you can actually play pen and paper rpgs on a budget, as long as you're willing to do some of the creative legwork on your own (just buy the basic rule books, and make up the monsters and adventures on your own)... lack of players is a problem however. at least MMOs are a pretty good substitute!

ok, i'm literally pulling out my bag of dice for this... let's see, damage... 1d8 for a longsword, +1 because it's magic... no bonus for strength... x2 because it's a critical hit...
i rolled a 1... that's 4 damage total.
the dragon is now awake.
