Description Quick warmup sketch here of Cap & Shield before diving into some other stuff. Just watched a show on the deconstruction of capitalism and how quickly good ol' USA could radically change if China decided to stop buying our debt, just got me a bit patriotic I guess, so I whipped up this Cap, symbolic and defiant of what I feel is beyond me to control. But I can draw, so I did.

Also, side-note, still tweaking style choices - let me know what you think?

Thanks all,

Jason

Jason, I would like to ask a favor of you. It involves this piece of work. Read my current journal and see if this interests you. If it doesn't I won't think any less of you.

Nice Cap by the way.

Well I was simply thinking you take this piece of Captain America and draw a nice logo on it that says something like "Captain America Thanks You". Sign it and put where you are from and send it to me so I can get my mom to send it to the troops. But if you want to go get a blank card and draw something new that's cool. Whatever you choose to do just note me for my address.

Hey Jason, great sketch! Shield seems a tad small, but then it is a sketch. I like the style here, very Silvestri.

Love it Jason. Nicely done. I'm probably tackling Cap here next week myself. Got a possible comission and realized.. I've neer drawn Captain America. lol!

Awesome! You going with the old-school costume, or the more Ultimates style?

Not sure. I kind of dig the Ultimates "strap on the chin" look. I'll have to see what the customer wants first and go from there.

Thanks Dan - I imagine him built like an NFL linebacker Can't go wrong there I think.

No you can't. I actually think that to do him any other way would be wrong. He is supposed to be the embodiment of the ideal American soldier. He should at least look like it and you make it so. I think that the back shot is also a good idea as the beach muscles in the front usually get all the press. Nothing makes a hero look more powerful than an imposing back shot in my opinion. It also gives the implication that he doesn't feel threatened by the viewer in the least to the point where he readily turns his back to them. That's my impression anyways. Anyways, great drawing.

Great looking Cap Jason! Is that done completely in pen, and what style choices are you pondering?

That's all pencil - I darkened it in the scan treatment a bit so it would show up. Using much thinner line patterns/hatch areas going more for tone, grays, etc.

Then that's a nice effect from the scan treatment because it really gives it a pen/ink feel. I love the hatching too. I like the way you shade all of your drawings for that matter. Something I really need to improve on. When you say "quick sketch", how long are you talking?

Ah, this one was in the 1hr range I believe - at 8-1/2x11, pencil only

Nice sketch, i like all the linework. This country's capitalism will fall along with the religious nuts and the republicans, tea partiers and democrats. Everything is based on corruption, lies, and abuse misuse and non truths. I broke thru the matrix so can you
