I got to do work on HBO's Game of Thrones, mostly marketing ideas done as rough comps. Most likely, any ideas used would ultimately be done with photos.I'm not showing stuff that might be used, but there's a few ideas I liked that were rejected. Often, the reason for rejecting an idea was that it was "too inside" appealing to the fans, not the uninitiated. My thinking was that the uninitiated would wonder what they were missing out on. Especially for season 2 and all the hoopla over the past year. This is one of those too inside designs.

i love it - it makes people who know the characters, the stories, the books feel included - part of a special circle, so that the people who aren't part of that want to become part of it.
anything that encourages people to read the books not just watch the tv series, i feel, is a good thing

I agree with your take - "too inside" could lead to some way-out stuff that would have the newcomers thinking "man, got to check this out"
