"Sometimes, parents were control freaks. That's the very reason Agatha left kraken royalty to live in the surface world as a way to escape the domineering kraken queen, who was her mother. Too bad she ended up becoming like her in a different way, namely keeping her daughter Ruby Gillman in the dark about her true nature and insisting she remained small even after the truth was revealed to her. Right after her argument with her mom in your universe, Ruby ran away into the clutches of the mermaid Chelsea, or rather Nerissa, into giving her the trident as a peace offering between krakens and mermaids only to be made as a fool into giving the latter the power that she needed to eradicate all mermaids. But in this universe, Agatha told Ruby the truth while she was growing in the surface world. Let's see how big she'll get as a result."
