It is not very often that I write something like this in public.
I’m sure you all know about the massive bushfires affecting Australia. I live not that far away in New South Wales from one of the closest areas affected and all I can say is that it is probably the first time in my life where I have felt this intense sensation of doom, an absolute feeling of misery and helplessness that has governed almost every other emotion that I’ve felt since Christmas.
Seeing your childhood memories reduced to ashes, seeing the hundreds and thousands of burned and mutilated animal corpses all around you and seeing the sky looking like something from another planet or that the world is ending really does some serious shit to your mind. The amount of smoke I’ve breathed in will probably guarantee to give me and thousands others another stack of a health problem to worry about.
I should have had the right to welcome the New Year’s passing with absolute joy as what we usually do. But deep down there was a worry and a feeling of terror instead. And it’s slowly growing.
This artwork is dedicated to my sister, a vet working to save as many native Australian animals as possible as well as the thousands of other Australian legends who are working/volunteering day and night to help rebuild what has been lost.

Eucalyptus trees are a natural wonder. They are extremely specialized kind of live forms. There is a reason why the "oil" in their vains and leaves - eucalyptus-essence - is highly flammable. These trees NEED bushfires / forest fires to actually procreate. Their seeds can only work if they are burned. Should it get hot enough for the eucalyptus essence to ignite the whole tree will explode and go up in flames faster then you can say "NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The poor koala-bears!"
Koalas are evolutionary dead-ends. Like the Big Panda Bear the developed to only live and eat on or near their main food source. The fact that eucalyptus trees grow and spread their seeds in such an volatile way makes the future of the koala bear as an species questionable.
Despite that... Is it a tragedy to see all these trees and animals go up in flames? Yes... but Mother Nature isn't a gentle lovely girl with flowers in her hair, an bambi sitting on her lap and cute birds fluttering around her. Mother Nature is an blood soaked hag that cackles with glee everytime a wolf kills a bambi, a fox kills a rabbit, a cat mauls a songbird, a pack of lions hunts and kills the young, the old and the sick gazelles or antilopes. Eating them while they are still alive...

Even in ruin there is hope. From destruction will spring new life. The land lost will regrow more lush than before.
