Description Edit: I'm currently overwhelmed with comments/feedback, but all I can say is thank you for the support and thank you so much for the Daily Deviation

---

It is not very often that I write something like this in public.

I’m sure you all know about the massive bushfires affecting Australia. I live not that far away in New South Wales from one of the closest areas affected and all I can say is that it is probably the first time in my life where I have felt this intense sensation of doom, an absolute feeling of misery and helplessness that has governed almost every other emotion that I’ve felt since Christmas.

Seeing your childhood memories reduced to ashes, seeing the hundreds and thousands of burned and mutilated animal corpses all around you and seeing the sky looking like something from another planet or that the world is ending really does some serious shit to your mind. The amount of smoke I’ve breathed in will probably guarantee to give me and thousands others another stack of a health problem to worry about.

I should have had the right to welcome the New Year’s passing with absolute joy as what we usually do. But deep down there was a worry and a feeling of terror instead. And it’s slowly growing.

This artwork is dedicated to my sister, a vet working to save as many native Australian animals as possible as well as the thousands of other Australian legends who are working/volunteering day and night to help rebuild what has been lost.

I’ve learned that there’s actually quite a lot of rainfall that’s come to the affected regions, so the relief efforts have just received a real boost to fighting the fires. As for saving the wildlife, the authorities managed to save a wild stand of Wollemi Pines, these being the last of their kind on Earth. While it’s not over yet, progress has been made in resolving this. I hope and pray that this ends soon. Best of luck to you and your sister’s efforts.

This artwork is so beautiful and really expresses what we're going through as a nation. Thank you Janice for bringing this issue into further public attention - it's truly a serious matter and the fact that there are people who take the issue lightly is appalling.
Have you had much rain recently around where you live? Yesterday, my area got a few hours worth of decent rain (though not enough) - for some reason though, there was a lot of smoke blowing our way as well. :/

Also, your sister is an absolute legend. We need more people like her in these times!
Btw about the smoke, I recommend getting some air purifiers to stick around the house with HEPA filters in them if you can. They really do help.

You're absolutely welcome! That's awesome to hear
Oh oof, good thing she loves her job. That in itself is a great source of stamina when it comes to work
Ugh that really sucks, guess the air purifiers wouldn't be so efficient then. Hopefully when more rain comes miraculously next time around, the majority of fires will be put out so that people won't need to bear with all this smoke and poor air quality any longer :/

The small-ish amount of rain has just been smoldering fires though and causing more smoke in some cases. Gotta keep praying for greater amounts of rain!
Thankfully for the past week there's been a lot (got flash flooded and a bit of hail today...) but the nation still needs more water to alleviate the drought too.

edit: Congrats on getting daily deviantion!!

I never denied the likelihood that arsonists were going around making Australia really lit, but still... sad what people do to our environments for selfish reasons

sorry to say, but this dude sounds really biased.
Btw, the ones who get caught are just really stupid. All you need to do these days is light a cigarette and chuck it. Bam, you've started a fire in a matter of seconds and as long as no one saw you chuck it, you won't get caught.

The devastation is heartbreaking. ;A; I can't imagine living there and seeing it in person. The art is beautiful and the message even more. Thank you for drawing this to bring more attention to what's going on. I hope the fires die down soon!!

To Lily-Ash,

I often look at responders pages to see if they are just 'bot's' that have just joined with nothing on their page. 'Bots' are getting ever more complex in their replies and emotions.

Yours was plain as the light of day on your page. No need to search, I just clicked on your name. If it is important enough to state below your name, then it is part of you as is the language you use and the way you like to play the victim of nothing really, to distract it from the animals in Australia that are truly suffering.

Be well.  -  And am glad you decided to block me to show the persistence of your blurb/motto. I will do likewise. (oh lol, blocking is mutual! thanks!)

I believe "Save what may be lost" means to save what potentially could be lost or needs help. To save what would be lost without saving. The title doesn't matter if the message it gotten across I believe. God save Australia from the arsonist terrorists spreading the bushfires.

It's just a bad-feeling situation all around. (Also, I'd advise against donating to the Salvation Army. They, at least in America, don't respect LGBTQ+ people, to say the least.)

I'd advise against donating to Goodwill, too.I've worked there, and the work environment is just crappy! They only hired people who were black or white, and they allowed bullying and harassment in the workplace. If you're LQBT,forget about getting a job there(good thing I never told them I was gay)...there were always roaches running around the kitchen in the Goodwill workplace...I've even seen dead roaches in the employees-only area and on kitchen counters-they would STILL be there whenever I returned to work.  They also throw away 90 percent of PERFECTLY GOOD ITEMS just because they feel like it. The pay is crappy, too.

Beautiful piece of work. I live in Australia, along the NSW Mid North Coast that has been affected by the fires. They were bad here, and some of my friends had to evacuate.
But it's disgusting when you hear just how many of those fires were deliberately lit. One of the fires in my hometown was deliberately lit by some teenagers. They stole a car, took it for a joyride, parked it in bushland and set the car alight, which in turn set the bushland on fire. But it's nice to see that the trees that were burned have regrown new shoots.

I am just beyond sorry this is all happening. The secretary on is heartbreaking. I live in New York but hearing about the fires in California, the Amazon, Kyoto and now this have all been so utterly awful. I was apart of a charity stream last night, we raised $3000 Australian dollars for the firefighters. It’s not much but I hope it helps

I too live in Australia... am praying for a miracle that all the fires can die off soon and that we can start to rebuild etc.

This piece is so beautiful and also hits me right in the feels.

I'm so sorry to hear that you have lost so much and how awful the smoke has been, affecting many people! I really feel for those who have lost so much with these fires (I happen to live in a suburban area where we haven't had fires affect us but still get the smoke blanketing around us).

I wish you and everyone else who have been affected so greatly the best in being able to recover from this tragedy and being able to turn things around, even if all seems lost and bleak currently.

Stay strong and stay safe.
