Description
A tutorial that no one requested! Enjoy!.: FAQ :.
Does this work in Sai/Other Art Programs?
If you can merge your layers, then it should work. If you can't, soz mate you're on your own
I haven't found a way to select multiple layers in Sai at once so you'll just have to go down the list for Sai :c And I still haven't figured out how to duplicate multiple layers either.
But Jato, couldn't you merge all those layers before dragging above the Lines layer?
Why yes.
Yes you can.Β
Does lineart have to be Darker on Dominant/Alpha backgrounds?
On Dom/Alpha backgrounds, you're allowed to create "backlighting" on your imports by selecting the Aurora colour (the bluish colour on dom/alpha or the orange on Alphas) and colouring the silhouette of the Tokota. You can do this in PS with a clipping mask ABOVE your colours layer.
But I've seen average/submissive Tokotas with lighter coloured lineart?
Those are outdated imports and no longer apply as far as I'm aware. Also I'm not a DC admin so idk
Will this work if I don't have the Tokota's PSD file/separate marking layers?
Unfortunately no. If you do happen to have the colours only layer, you could possibly do this method with some fixing up of the silhouette but since most people only have the PNGs that's probably not the case
Wasn't this Tutorial unnecessarily long for a process that takes approximately 2 minutes?
That is correct.
Why is this Tutorial full of spelling errors?
Because I'm too lazy to fix them ;D

How come I only now found this? This is useful for so many ARPGs and possibly even for artists who color the lines on art pieces. I spend so much time on the actual design, I get lazy and just slap two or three colors on the lineart and call it done. This will help that issue I have and really, you could use hue and saturation to make the lineart darker, or tint the color for ones like albinos.

Glad this was helpful! What I've actually started doing was for the base, create a clipping mask that's a where the layer is just a solid layer and use that as the base (If that makes sense). Less fixing up to do around the edges if you have a simpler design.Β
And that's true for albinos!Β

Oh dang this is superrr useful! Honestly I go the super lazy route and just set the lines to multiply and then select a color that's a bit darker than the base color and fill it in :'D But I may just try this method too!Β

Yeah that's a good method too although sometimes because the colour layers aren't perfect it can give a weird affect around like the eyes and flesh (if that makes sense?). It's not too noticeable on dark coloured designs or solid colour designs though so it works! Plus it's barely noticeable scaled down LMAO

Thatβs true but I noticed itβs cause the flesh is kinda badly colored :β) I just fill it in better and it looks great, though when Iβm really lazy I make the lines around the mouth and eyes dark LOL

Well this sounds like an idea I'll definitely have to try at some point. I don't have Photoshop, so I'll have to use Sai, but I've always been scared to try and lighten my lineart to look good because knowing me I'd really screw it up. XD But this method looks pretty solid. Thanks!

Yeah honestly, this saves me so much time Haha
It's simple but took me a while to figure out as well so maybe I can speed up the lightbulb moment for everyone else xD
