Onyx had a good childhood growing up until he was about 7 when his father Obsidian (shown on the far right) passed away from a heart attack. Although he took well care of himself his father had severe heart problems he had several surgeries for growing up and requiring him to have a pace maker. He was relatively young when his pace maker short circuited and he collapsed. They were sadly unable to revive him. (Note: All of Onyx's heart conditions he inherited from his father but he took different routes to get better.)

Candy Cane (shown on the far left) took good care of him and although upset over Obsidian's death didn't really change much in how she took care of Onyx and his older sister Amber Rose (not shown) since she was "numb" to death do to working as a nurse in the emergency room hospital in Manehatten. However after Onyx went in for his own heart surgery at the age of 9 Candy Cane simply vanished. It is unknown if she committed suicide, ran off in grief, or abandoned him and his sister. No one has seen her since and Onyx now age 19 (or 39 if he has kids) holds out little hope in finding her.

After her disappearance and recovery he went to go live on his grandmother's farm. And the rest is history.
