This is my newest OC to the bunch, Viper the Basilisk Pony!

Some basic info about her.

Name: Viper
Gender: Female
Race: Basilisk Pony Hybrid
Coat Color: Pale Green
Mane/Tail Colors: Blue, Green, and Purple
Eye Color: Gold
Accessories: Gold Bands
Cutie Mark: Flute and Snake
Backstory (WIP):
Viper is the daughter of a poor mare who was seduced and charmed by a basilisk who intended to keep the mare as his slave. However to his shock the mare did his every whim without the need of a spell or constant charm to keep her from escaping. Even more to his shock she did it all out of love. She was the first creature never to fear him for what he truly was. His original intentions of working the mare to the bone by being his slave and then devouring her when she was close to death were lost on him when he realized he was head over tail in love with her. Their unintended love then created Viper. Viper suffers taunts and jeers for her strange mane of snakes and the mare has to constantly be careful of where her gaze falls for risk of instantly killing a pony or turning them to stone. She often times will cover her eyes with a cloth to prevent that. Despite this she is a rather sweet and gentle mare and loves to play the flute since it helps lift the spirits of others as well as her own.
Viper's snakes are NOT controlled by Viper herself and have minds of their own however Viper is the only one who can understand them. The purple snake is Calypso, the green Balthazar, and the blue is Sauron. They each have different personalities but Viper loves them all for their quirks.

Tiny bit.

Alright. But it really sucks that others can't look into her eyes and stuff. Because her eyes are actually kinda pretty, as is she. It's a terrible curse that one should have to put up with, but sadly, she does. Also, not intending to bag on anything and only pointing this out, but if she was charmed and seduced by a basilisk, that means the basilisk kind of kidnapped her, and if she fell in love with him, that sounds a lot like Stockholm syndrome. Once again, this isn't a problem, I'm only pointing it out. I could actually be wrong about that. But yeah, just pointing it out.

Actually the situation is a bit different then you think.
Viper's mother loved her the basilisk when he was in his pony form and when he lured her to a remote location and captured her she didnt mind all that much.

KanadeViolet In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-22 02:36:24 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see. Also, would looking at reflection of Viper also affect the other pony? And would a reflection of her have any effect on her? Like, could a pony use a mirror to look at Viper without looking at her directly and still be unaffected?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Java-Kitty In reply to KanadeViolet [2013-07-22 02:47:34 +0000 UTC]

Only direct eye contact triggers the stone spell.

KanadeViolet In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-22 02:55:59 +0000 UTC]

Alright. So a mirror would work. Of course, having to hold a mirror and look at her reflection would cause communication issues.

Plus most freak out at the sight of her and drop it.

KanadeViolet In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-22 03:03:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, I mean deliberately using the mirror to look at her without looking at her directly. It'd be awesome if she could control that stone spell. However, I don't think it's controllable at all, is it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Java-Kitty In reply to KanadeViolet [2013-07-22 03:06:13 +0000 UTC]

No.
Also a mirror barely works.
If they lock eyes in the mirror for prolonged periods of time (And looking away from a basilisk once locking eyes is exceedingly hard) the spell also triggers.

KanadeViolet In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-22 03:16:16 +0000 UTC]

I see. So she's doomed to have the curse looming over her for the rest of her life. It'll be very difficult for her to have friends other than her snakes or be in a relationship. I feel sorry for her.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Java-Kitty In reply to KanadeViolet [2013-07-22 03:17:18 +0000 UTC]

Yes.
Although her snakes make great companions.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KanadeViolet In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-22 03:32:07 +0000 UTC]

I understand that. BUt I just feel bad for her. I just feel like I could be her friend but at the same time, I'd need to worry about my safety and life for her sake. Because she can also kill others instantly with her gaze. And if somepony is dead, they can't be her friend. So not only would you have to take risks to be her friend, you'd also need to take to take very precautionary measures even if there aren't any. Is being her friend impossible or just very difficult?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Java-Kitty In reply to KanadeViolet [2013-07-23 17:52:51 +0000 UTC]

Very difficult.
There are rare ponies immune to the gaze of a basilisk (Such as dragons, kirin, qui'lins and other hybrids) but only some of them have that ability. Normal ponies have to go through extreme measures to make themselves immune such as constantly being turned to stone until they build up an immunity to the spell but then they become vulnerable to the death glare.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KanadeViolet In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-23 23:37:39 +0000 UTC]

So is whether or not it's the stone spell or the death glare completely up to chance? Or are there other factors that go into it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Java-Kitty In reply to KanadeViolet [2013-07-24 00:28:57 +0000 UTC]

Stone glare is short term glance into her eyes.
If your immune (And its partially chance situation) and dont look away quick enough the stare kills you. (Looking away from a basilisk's gaze is near impossible and takes great strength to do so. And if the spell doesnt turn you to stone it will kill you.) Looking into her eyes at all is to gamble with your life.

KanadeViolet In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-24 00:49:40 +0000 UTC]

If you're looking toward her and at her, but not into her eyes, does that count as direct eye contact? Because when I talk to people casually I don't look them in the eye. I just look in their general direction and look at them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Java-Kitty In reply to KanadeViolet [2013-07-24 01:10:28 +0000 UTC]

Direct eye contact is when you look into someones eyes. Most people do that when they have a conversation.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KanadeViolet In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-24 02:53:48 +0000 UTC]

I see. So being her friend and talking to her would basically be one big gamble for your life?

Looks really nice and I know if she locks eyes with someone she turns them to stone for a bit but what if somepony what wearing Sun glasses at the time. Β Do they still turn the stone or do the dark glasses block that? Β Still looks really good and love the colors too mate!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Java-Kitty In reply to Jghx5 [2013-07-22 01:33:27 +0000 UTC]

Well they have to look directly into each others eyes. If they do the other pony is turned to stone for 24 hours (Very painfully too)
If Viper's eyes are covered the affect is nullified. If the other pony does than I guess it works the same way.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jghx5 In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-22 01:35:30 +0000 UTC]

Ah! Me see now. Β Thanks for the info mate!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Java-Kitty In reply to Jghx5 [2013-07-22 01:37:23 +0000 UTC]

However this only temporarily works. If the pony in the sunglasses locks eyes with Viper for to long the spell will then be triggered.

Then he/she better be easily distracted when talking to hear or else he/she a piece of art for a little bit. Β Again, thanks for the info.

Welcome ^^
And all they need to know is not to look directly at her.

scifidude47 In reply to ??? [2013-07-22 01:15:27 +0000 UTC]

So she can't look at somepony or she'll turn them to stone?

That's so sad :C

Great art though :3

Java-Kitty In reply to scifidude47 [2013-07-22 01:17:48 +0000 UTC]

She cant lock eyes with someone. SO if you were to look into her eyes and she into your eyes you would become stone. The affect isnt permanent but it is painful for the other pony and makes them avoid her. The snakes on her head dont help either to drive people away.

scifidude47 In reply to Java-Kitty [2013-07-22 01:21:14 +0000 UTC]

Can it be cured or is there some sort of item/potion that can avert it? (Temporarily, at least?)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Java-Kitty In reply to scifidude47 [2013-07-22 01:22:36 +0000 UTC]

Not sure but it could exist.
But in doing so it would kill her snakes.
