Description
Rue Amarhet, the terrible beast,No weapon could stop his fury.
For thirty years he never ceased,
To fill each cemetery.
His teeth and fangs were sharp and cruel
His eyes were gray like smoke
Never was there a single fool
Who lightly, his name spoke.
Rue Amarhet, the fearsome wolf,
I hope you never do meet.
No beast as swift of foot or hoof,
Could ever hope to compete.
Rue Amarhet, a rebellious young soul
Was born with a name and a curse
Hidden away in the town of Knoll
The charge of the village nurse
A past that few would ever know
A future no one could see
Only time could ever show
Who Rue Amarhet would grow to be…
“Rue…” The fragile woman gasped. Her baby lay silently, wrapped in the blankets the young girl nearby held. With a final shudder the woman went still, her breathing slowing until it stopped completely. The elderly woman got up from where she had been seated by the baby’s mother. She looked from the still woman to the child holding the baby and shook her head sadly.
“Is he breathing, child?” The elderly woman asked. The young girl nodded, holding the baby boy close to her heart, shaking slightly in shock as she looked at the still woman laying on the bed. The elderly woman frowned, watching the silent baby in the child’s arms. “He shall be called Rue, like his father. Let us hope that the name is the only thing the two have in common.” She added, looking out the window into the storming night.
“Rue…” The girl said softly, watching the little baby in her arms, “It’s a lovely name.”
Outside, in the midst of the storm, a single silver eye glinted in the flashes of lightning. It followed the activity in the small cottage for a time, watching and listening before finally vanishing into the darkness of the night. A long howl was drowned out by the crash of thunder in the dark night sky, the only sign that anything stirred outside the quiet cottage.
The poem, story, characters, and art all belong to me
