Description
This map is inspired by The Komneniad: A very Byzantine ISOT on AH.com and the hours spent playing Crusader Kings 2 and its mods...Just as the young king was instructing his Grand Maester to send out the ravens to call the banners for the imminent war against the Martell ruled Dorne a purple light flashed in the skies for days and the fate of the world changed forever. Dorne was no more, just south of the lands where the Daynes and Yronwoods ruled, a set of new kingdoms and empires, exhausted after half a millenium of war, appeared by divine intervention, further East the Stepstones were replaced by the Balkans and Anatolia with the only way in or out the Narrow Sea being the Roman controlled Bosphorus and their capital Constantinople.
On one hand in the Roman Empire, the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the Kingdom of Georgia and its tributary, the Restored Kingdom of Armenia Christianity dominates, their people are busy rebuilding the demages of the last century since Mazinkert, the conquests of the First and Second Crusades must be preserved, Anatolia is Roman again and the Holy Land is, after six centuries Christian again. On the other hand, the territory nominally controlled from Baghdad by the Abbasid Caliph: the statelets born from the collapse of the Seljuk authority in Anatolia and the remnant of said sultanate surviving in the pieces of Persia brought along. Saracens, Kurds, and Turks, Mohammedans one and all are burning with the desire to reconquer Al-Quds and Dimašq avenging the defeats of the last half century.
The Valyrian king young and untested now has a great dilemma on his hands; launch the conquest of these new kingdoms and thus strengthen the legitimacy of House Targaryen or maybe, as the new High Septon demands, follow the example of the Franks in Palestine and go to Crusade for his holy land, Andalos.
In Essos, the cities of Tyrosh and Lys, staunch enemies since the fall of the Triarchy almost three decades ago, are preparing for war, the appearance of the Balkans where the Stepstones used to be, has cut off their trade routes and honestly, they would rather not pay the tolls to use the Straits. Fleets are gathering, sellsword companies are hired for a war that could rival the Dance of Dragons or the Volantene War a century and a half ago. Volantis, for its part, watches with interest the course of events preparing to avenge her defeat one hundred and seventy years ago and claim, once and for all, the title of true heir of Valyria.
