Description
BEFORE YOU ASSUME:I love curvy women—you guys are beautiful and blessed and frankly, very fun to draw. Rock those curves ladies, you're all amazing
Fat shaming does exist, and it is a problem—yes, being healthy is important! It's not okay to shame someone for their weight or claim that curves are unhealthy.
Biases do exist—certain media outlets do glorify slimmer bodies over curvier bodies, and some do promote an unhealthily skinny body image.
HOWEVER:
"Real women have curves"
"Size 0 = photoshop"
"Skinny is unhealthy"
"Men want women with curves"
Hey guys, it's me. An adult woman with the body of a twelve year old—a real life size 0.
Believe it or not, I have feelings, and being called anorexic and being told I should eat more hurts my feelings. Telling someone I'm in college and having them react by saying "but you're so little!!" hurts my feelings. Being called "fake" and "unrealistic expectations" by the media hurts my feelings.
Here's the deal guys.
You don't have to tear one side down in order to support the other.
Hello! I was born! Do you know what that means? I'm real. Can we please just stop with the labeling?
Here's what labeling really does. It makes me feel like the only thing I have going for me is my weight. Every time someone says "wow, you're so skinny!" it makes me feel like I have to do everything I can to stay skinny. I struggle with acne, I don't have curves, and my make up skills are not fantastic. What do I have going for me but my tiny butt?
I don't know, maybe my personality? My love for Jesus? My gifts and talents? My work ethic?
I don't mean to complain guys, I'm sorry
None of us like being overlooked and/or judged for our appearance. God made each of us ladies and each of you men so very beautiful and individual. Love yourself, but don't love yourself by tearing someone else down.
love y'all

Being called anorexic, commented about my weight, and being told that I needed to be 'fat' hurts my self-esteem so BAD and worse, it even made my anxiety worsened...I truly wish that people would stop doing that and respect others instead.

I relate to this so hard ;n; Society really doesn't have to turn to the media to know how to view others. We should just like people for being people, ya know?? I personally think you're a wonderful person who deserves only the best in this world

Yo, awesome! Love your anatomy in this piece. ;-; And no man, you're beautiful just the way you are. It makes me very mad when people say that we should look like "this and that" to please men. Heck, that's idiocy. We ain't made to please 'em, don't feel bad about yourself because of what some idiots say, everyone is as God made them. And if we wanna change, it shouldn't be for men or because men think something, it should be for ourselves and our own benefit. All ye ladies are legit, and freakin' awesome! I love your message here, thanks for posting it!!
Stay strong!

Well, I don't have many friends... I've been hurt too many times, and when I met you.. I didn't have to worry about my trust issues because with you, I could just tell from square one that your friendship was sincere! I couldn't have asked for a better friend than you! <3 You are so sweet, kind, caring , and SOO much more!

I cant help but agree completely. Every person is beautiful in their own way. There's nothing wrong with being curvy, or being tiny. Its what's in your heart that's important. I'm a guy, and I went through a superficial phase when I was younger where appearance mattered a lot to me. I finally came to the realization that 90% or more of a person's beauty comes from within.
And when it comes to the physical, a simple smile is the most beautiful thing about a girl by far. No amount of curves or complexion can ever hold a candle to that.
And honestly, this is an issue that affects men as well. Have you ever seen the kinds of men that are pictured all over TV, on romance novel covers, posters, and the such? A lot of guys feel inferior as well. I've got a pot gut, a limp from crushing part of my spine a few years ago (Lack of activity from this probably accounts for the pot gut. ), a face that breaks out with pimples every time I shave (I cut it down to stubble, so I have a perpetual 5 o'clock shadow rather than a clean shave all the time.), and so much body hair I could strip down and pass myself off as a wookiee. Its easy to be self conscious about your appearance for a million reasons.
My advice to any woman feeling this way: If your smile does not mean the world to him, if they dont authentically enjoy your company for WHO you are rather than WHAT you are, they never try to force you to do something you aren't comfortable with, and they dont treat you like a princess just because they love seeing you happy, then they aren't worth your time. The trade off to this is that every guy likes to know that they are appreciated and loved, even if we aren't really good at admitting as much most of the time. If we treat you like a princess, then we deserve to be treated like your prince charming as well.
If someone doesn't accept you for who you are, then they dont matter. If someone really cares about you for who you are, then your appearance wont matter to them.
PS: You're a talented artist. I'm particularly fond of your art involving people. My favorite has to be "Soft Kitty."

Very true. In a culture that changes its standard of beauty every ten years, the only thing that remains consistent is a person's heart and love for others.
Thank you for your support of both men and women and your kind and thoughtful comment!

Thank you for the kind words. I'm overjoyed that I could have brightened your day a little bit with my comment.
How I look at it, societies definition of beauty is fleeting. You hit thirty, forty years old, and it becomes nearly impossible to maintain that image of "beauty" (Though some of us somehow manage to hold onto it a little longer than others.) When you're old and sitting across from the person you've spent your life with, which would you rather have: Someone who used to be beautiful by traditional standards that may or may not have actually found a true place in your heart, or someone who you've enjoyed your time with because you bring out the best in each other? I'd much rather have the fond memories with someone I enjoyed the company of through the highs and lows of life.
