AK variants and AR(M16) variants are not good for a zombie situation. The most AK ammunition used have a corrosive primer which will eventually kill the bore of the rifle if not cleaned thoroughly. AR's require plenty of lubrication in order to function properly. cleaning solvents and lube will be hard to come by when the stores are ransacked and you own supply has depleted.
That picture is missing the (possibly) best rifle for any survivor; the Ruger 10/22, the ammo is cheap, the rifle is cheap, and it'll work till it runs out of food, then you'd have to find more ammo. It can also be outfitted with kits. You can make it look like almost any other firearm; Thompson, P90, G36K, M1919, Lee Enfields, people have even made old Gatling gun look-a-likes.
Those of us in Canada are forced to follow a five round capacity for all rifle magazines, mags purchased must have a pin preventing any extra rounds to be added but the pin can be extracted if done properly. Ruger's however are exempt from the rule since it is "not as scary" to politicians.
