Description
A work in progress pic of a drawing I've been working on on/off - its a closeup of the hands of Pluto from Bernini's sculpture "Pluto abducting Perseponi" ... or is it Persophonia ... no Persephonia - ehmmanyway, I don't know if this gives u any idea of how the drawing is coming along - it will probably be a while before I finish it - so far I like the look
I wasn't drunk when I took the picture, my desk IS slightly vertical

Thank you
I use Derwent pencils - 2H, H, HB, 2B, 3B, 4B, 6B, 9B - and for this piece (which I haven't worked on in over two weeks now - lazy me ), I've used a special paperpen I once found (stole) to smudge out the lines

ok. do you use the pencils in layers? like starting off with say a 2B then moving down to the 9B?

yep pretty much - i'm not a professional but i do know that u should work in the darker tones gradually - seeing as it's pencil, you can make it darker but not brighter

oh hehe not like that - I work on one minor bit at a time, starting of bright and going darker, until I think the tone mathes the one on the print (below the drawing in the pic) - I'm using the pencils randomly on every detail until it looks good enough
there will be two hands in the picture when I'm done (which could take a while)

ok. thats what I needed to know. Just the hand needs to be significantly darker. I have my little way of asking the artist for a reference picture and also how they go about their portraits, before I go and critique.
It is looking very good so far, and I'm sure that it will end up the way you want it to!

ok thanks - yeah i know the drawing looks way brighter, but making it as dark as a print is hard without ruining it - looks better when its not compared to the actual image
also, I found the reference picture just googling "bernini" in case u wanted to know
