I am going to upload a smaller version.A Fan-art of Edward Elric. He is a young adult in this pic, right out of his teens. I modeled him after the 2003 anime, which I prefer over "-Brotherhood".
CAUTION MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS BELOW
Behind him are his alchemic notes. Ed has seen the gate more than probably any human in Amestris ever has (I think 7 times, counting the movie) so he likely has a very advanced grasp on alchemic concepts and theories. Combined with the knowledge on our side of the gate Ed would be considered a genius, even more so than before. The ruins and concepts I drew are my take on alchemy (lol I actually wrote the notes but its illegible) and how it works. However, they are purely from my mind so most likely non-canon.
Ed has his head turned with a troubled look on his face. If you know Ed, and have watched the first anime, you know its common for Ed to be in deep troubling thoughts, he often over-thinks things and ends up blaming himself for everything. Example: How Ed was always afraid that his brother secretly hated him for condemning him to life in a large metal suit. This is happening now, but in the future. He also developed a tan, possibly from much outdoor labor, on both Earth and Amestris
ost-Shamballa: The creators of FMA never touched the subject of Dante in the Movie "Conquer of Shamballa", so I have my suspicions that she is alive and pissed. That she would stop at nothing to get her revenge on Edward for ruining her chance at harnessing Alphonse's Philosopher stone. Knowing she is doomed to die, she would use the stone gluttony dropped in his fight with wrath to open the gate once more (along with a baby so the transmutation doesn't sacrifice all of her stones) and retrieve Ed and Al from Shamballa. Only to torture them in Amestris. The rest I will leave to your imagination, but in my mind Edward will have suffered many losses and would not escape unscathed.

By the way, has anyone ever notice a giant plot-hole in the 2003 anime Movie? At the end when E and Al decided to leave Amestris to close the gate from the other side, they could have just asked Al to transmute armored suits, put his soul in it temporarily, and travel across the gate to close it without Ed or Al setting one foot out of Amestris? I don't know, food for thought, though. This helped me cope through my depression when FMA 2003 was over, I can pretend it was all rainbows and butterflies and they never left <3 heh

Hmmm, I really do wonder what happened to her. What if she set off to Xing or another country to make a giant philosopher stone to get payback at Edo and Al, and then when she was strong enough went after them? Or she could have died, because her soul was starting to degrade so fast and she was too late to get a new body..

I think the producers didn't mention her on purpose to leave it a mystery to us. I never even considered she was alive until Vic or one of the voice actors suggested she was, in the movie commentary.

Hmmm, yeah. Since she can move bodies with any philosopher stone, she could have been in the movie for all we know. XD After all, we don't know, she could have even been one of the men..

Wow I actually never thought of that, its seems so obvious though O.O That could be a real possibility. I knew she would have switched bodies a few times already, but i didn't think that maybe she was in the movie. If she was alive I think she was the one who led Gluttony to Alphonse, because lets face it, gluttony was out of his mind. How convenient that he would show up there, with thousands of more red stones and jump into the circle to be sacrificed. If Dante was alive, its a high probability that she led gluttony to them. Her motive could be many things. One of my theories, is that she was using gluttony to collect more souls for her and was leading him to the underground city to use in switching bodies (He got distracted by wrath and Alphonse and ruined her chance at another body, AGAIN.). Another theory is that, she again led him there, but to purposely be sacrificed in opening the gate. She was Envy's mother, surly she felt at least SOMETHING for him, and him leaving to the other-side of the gate must have affected her in some way. (she wouldn't know about envy fueling the gate to open from the other side) So maybe she wanted it to open. Ether for Envy, for her hate/love for Hoenhiem, or for revenge I don't know. Imagine her anger when Ed and Al left to close it though. Assuming she was involved with theory 2, I also think she drew the transmutation circle to open the gate. I'm a little rusty with the movie and end of the series (I have watched the FMA and FMAB about five times, read the manga once, but I have only watched the movie three times. [I was determined to find plot-holes] and a long time ago. I refuse to watch the end again because it makes me too depressed)so I may be wrong, but I don't think Ed left that transmutation circle when reviving his brother... Yes I just confirmed it. He didn't and it wasn't drawn by anyone we saw. Hmmmm suspicious.All the characters were a little out of it from stress and hope that I don't think they even questioned it. And how did Wrath know that Al should go to the underground city?

Yea many possibilities. But ti this day I still don't want to admit to myself that Ed and Al would go to our boring alchemyless world instead of looking for a different alternative. The ending of Shamballa seemed very rushed, don't you think? Ed just suddenly desired that, he alone, would leave Amestris for the sake of their world. And what was with his attitude towards seeing all his friends and loved ones again?! He must have went through serious depression to not react so apathetically towards seeing his brother, Winery, Roy, and everybody else. Yes, it was in the middle of a battle field, but really?! No hug? I know he hugged Al but he was a suit of armor on Earth when it happened. If I were Him I would be overjoyed. Poor Ed though, he seamed really defeated in the Movie :/. Like he had no fight left in him. Sad.
Then the brotherhood is something alone, altogether. It was too happy. Too comical (And I watched Brotherhood first accidentally)compared to the first anime. Ed in the first is much more flawed, like a real person, while Ed from brother hood is more like a role model, someone to look up to. (I think someone else said this on forums once.). Edward in the first also had the privilege of more episodes focusing on his character development while the brotherhood/manga was rushing through all the good stuff to catch up with the plot. Even though the first anime was more cruel and "depressing" it also held numerous more jokes than Brotherhood. The majority were absolutely hilarious

I have to say I really do agree with you completely... Someone that I know says that the first anime left her a little 'empty', but sorry kiddo, that's how life works. People should be glad fma had even a slightly happy ending. I know that if I had written the story, at least two of the main characters that everybody loves would have died or lost their memory. I have a lot of different...versions of the ending in my head. What if Edward wasn't able to bring back Alphonse at all? What if was 10, hell, 30-40 years later when Edward and Al were able to even open the gate again? Also, about the movie's plot hole... I also agree. I felt kind of disappointed. I really wish that Edward and Alphonse had stayed in their world.. That could go along with plot developments with Roy, Winry, even Edward coming to have to face Izumi and Wraths' deaths, especially Wrath since the poor kid literally sacrificed his life for Edward and Alphonse reuniting even if he used to hate them and almost died at their hand. Oh, and as you pointed out, in the end of Brotherhood Edward just wasn't...Edward. I also think that Edward and Winry marrying...I dunno, it just doesn't seem like it fits. I didn't think the relation would really work out. Someone is probably going to stalk our comments and chew me out for saying that, but well, haters gonna hate I guess. I just don't think that much for that couple. Who knows.

Yes I agree with you as well. Winry in the brotherhood fit with Ed in the brotherhood though, but the proposal was just WAY too early. They didn't even date yet. However EdxWinry doesn't bother me as much as EdxRose. I'm sorry if someone doesn't agree with me, but Rose (or Noah) do not fit Ed in anyway. If anything it would be one-sided because I cannot imagine ed falling for anyone. Honestly Ed is probably too broken, depressed, and experienced beyond his years to let himself fall in love. I'm not saying this because I don't like the idea of Ed being happily in love, but I really do think that if you look at it objectively, its true. If you look at Ed's past you can tell that almost anyone he dared let close to his hear either left him or died. Ed would probably be physiologically traumatized from all that abuse he went through as a child, to the point were he would give up making deep connections with people in fear that they will abandon him. In the case with Rose and Noah, the pairing wouldn't work out. In addition to Ed's past, they wouldn't work out because they are both timid, religious (and thus a little closed-minded witch Ed is the opposing of [not bashing religion or anything]), and weak-willed [both Rose and Noah let their surroundings control/manipulate them while Ed is/was a spitfire of wills
Although the first anime did also leave my feeling "empty" (ironically I called it that too) I cure the emptiness with more FMA. I drew it, theorized about it, and read billions of fanfictions on it ^^ [the fanfics are the best at making you get over an anime]. But to this day, four to five years later, I still haven't gotten over it. Fight when I think I have, I get hooked again. That is how good of a novel FMA really is. It deserves to be the top best anime. Don't worry, I'm not saying that lightly, I have watched MANY anime but none have affected me the way FMA has.
I hope to make a fanfic of my own soon about it. Oh and I would also be delighted to read a fanfic about, if Ed failed to bring his brother back after his death and revival. I think I may have read one already, but others are always welcome. I have probably ready every story staring Ed, genre: angst, with 20,000+ words, on Fanfiction.com that doesn't have ridiculous pairings or O.C.s. Do your read or write fanfics?

There are a few fanfics that I kind of want to write. The one that I've decided most about is something I have no idea how the heck I came up with, where Edward loses his memory although he does feel comfort in being with Alphonse and doesn't trust anyone else, even Winry. Interesting, right? I also mainly like fanfics with no ocs or silly pairings(ex: Ed/Roy, Winry/Roy, Ed/[enter sue oc here], etc) although I do support one sort of ridiculous pairing that kind of is canon in the first anime, kind of(can you guess who? I have no idea how I got into the pairing though).... One of my favorite fanfics is an uncompleted fanfic with Selim finding out he was formerly a homunculus. I realize it's fmab, but it's very well written, and even though it has a few ocs(we don't have any references for Ed and Wins' chillens, do we?) I really like it. It's called 'In The Shadows'.

Actually its very common to find fanfics were Ed loses his memory, they frustrate me sometimes so I try to avoid them, but there are some very skilled authors out there with great ideas how to execute it so if its realistic I'll read it anyday. Oh no please don't tell me your into EdxRose X[ heh heh heh...that would be funny since I wrote so many negative things about that pairing...sorry. And don't get me started with EDxAl pairing. God what has the world come too?! Also, I have no problem with FMAB, I just prefer FMA more. I don't love one and hate the other either, both have amazing story-lines and plot depth but one just reaches out to me more than the other. I think I'll check that fic out, it sounds cool. I looked it up and damn its long! I love long fanfics, they last longer (no duhh). There is a fanfic I know of that you may like. Its called "Solace" by "Kris Harold" Its one of the few memory loss Eds I actually like. I haven't read it in a while though. Basically Ed gets brain damage from getting hit by lightning and forgets about Al. He is convinced that his brother died the day they tried to bring their mother back. He remembers everything but AL and its from AL's point of view.

Hmmm, really? I've never read any of them. I rarely find a fanfic that I really like, it's mostly for the funzies(a technical term XD).. Don't worry, I'm not a big fan of Ed/Rose. XD The one I like is amazingly crazy as you pointed out.. Yes, I like Elricest, don't kill meeeee ;w; I only like it as fluff though... It's hard to explain why I support it otl. You like it so far? Its okay (I won't kill you.), I like a ridiculous pairing as well but I dare not name in public. I'm not gonna say but it yaoi too sooo...I really shouldn't be hypocritical. Elricest is actually a probibal pairing, seeing as how obsessed both are of each other, but I just can't get over the fact that they are brothers. I have a brother so the relation is weird to me. And I really was too harsh on the Ed/Rose thing,Its probably cuz I don't like Rose in general.Please don't guess the pairing I like, if you do, and guess right, I will be forced to delete your comment in shame... =^_^= But I bounce back and forth between hating it and liking it. I didn't really know what to say because I didn't know how you react, but I personally think that it's the most probable pairing in the anime besides Roy/Riza(pairing that actually didn't truly exist but was hinted).
......wait, I want to know what pairing you support. Can you at least tell me one of the characters that is apart of it? I wish you could tell me in notes or something. ;w;

Truthful...hm... Roy/Riza and Ed/Al are actually the only pairs that I support in fma. XD If I had to choose another pairing for the anime though, I would choose Wrath/Al. I'm not really into it though.
