Description
This was a recent commission where I was asked to draw Kermit, Bunsen Honeydew, Beaker and Pepe as the cowboys from The Magnificent 7, plus three Muppets of my choosing. I've always been a fan of the lesser known but often seen background characters of the Muppet Show, especially the monsters, so I went with three of my favorites: The Blue Frackle (seen in the Florence Henderson and Alice Cooper episodes), The Beautiful Day Monster (who asks "Got anything cheaper?" in the Paul Williams episode and gets squished flat) and The Luncheon Counter Monster (from the Nancy Walker episode, where she's a waitress and he eats everything on the lunch counter when she's not looking).Obviously I'm a Muppet fan. A biggun.

Cool, you even included Beautiful Day Monster. It's rare to see fan art of that guy.

Muppets forever. I grew up on the show. Have to put it in the dvd collection (if it's on dvd)
That "got anything cheaper" sketch has always been one of my all-time faves. That, and the insult duel with Sweetums

Jim Henson creations mixed with a classic Western remake of an Akira Kurosawa epic? Why, that's just ridiculously awesome, Jay!

I find it amusing Luncheon Counter Monster (AKA Coach Gruesome from a Statler and Waldorf parody about sports movies) is riding a scooter...
Still, points for BDM in there.

Damn, yes you are! I'm glad I remembered the Alice Cooper episode (my favorite--School's Out, Welcome to My Nightmare, and one ballad I couldn't place; saw the man in concert in Biloxi, MS a year ago and he's still got it!). Love the movie reference and what you do with it. Maybe you can do a Muppet version of the original film behind Magnificent Seven--Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.

"I yam not a SHRIMP! I yam a KEEG-PRRAWN, h'okay!?"
The fact you're using the Frackle and a few of the lesser-known monsters is what sells this piece for me. Though that Lunch-Counter monster did make several return performances -- I remember on where he came upon a talking computer-thingamabob, and proceeded to eat it, piece by piece, until at the end (while still in the monster's stomach) the computer said it would self-destruct in 3 seconds, giving the Monster just enough time to look at the audience and wave in resignation before KABLAMO! ^_^
Love your work always, Jay! Keep it up!

You're right about the LCM eating the machine--it was a redo from an older Ed Sullivan sketch Jim had produced, where the prototype for Cookie Monster (with big, sharp looking teeth)ate the machine and it blew up inside him.

Pepe has got to be my least favorite Muppet, but this is awesome nonetheless. Some really interesting choices, going with a few of the slightly more obscure characters; they all look great in your style.

Bunsen and Beaker sharing the camel just sold it for me - kudos for Pepe high-tailing it on the armadillo, too!
Also a sucker for lesser-known Muppet characters! Marvellous!

JayFosgitt In reply to QwertyChris [2011-05-16 18:11:32 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! the camel was a tactical choice, since it allowed me to save space by putting two characters on one animal, plus it just added to the overall silliness! The Luncheon Counter Monster on the Spree was a similar decision!
