I've been following a bunch of really cool Warriors MAPs on YouTube for a while now. The Shiny Scourge MAP is among the ones I've been following, and it looks like it's going to be really good, all of the parts look so good and colorful and well-animated. When I saw that there was going to be a contest to design the thumbnail image for the completed MAP video, I didn't think I was going to enter at first, since I imagined that far better artists than me would enter and likely win instead.

But when I suddenly had an interesting idea for a pose and concept for the image, I decided to go ahead and draw it anyway, even if I didn't have a great chance of winning. It sounds like some of the honorable mentions will be shown at the end of the video - maybe even if I don't win, I could end up among them. ^^

So here is my entry for the contest. ^^ I actually drew almost the entire thing on my phone, I didn't have my iPad on hand but I wanted to draw it anyway. I only did the shading on my iPad, I didn't want to risk it not turning out well on such a small screen. But I'm actually really proud of how it turned out considering I drew it all on my phone.

I was thinking about the Shiny number in Moana and how the original was staged out, and how the massive Tamatoa was able to so easily subdue and toy with Maui and Moana. Even though Scourge is so much smaller than Tigerstar and Firestar, his deadly strength in battle and his command of such a huge Clan allows him to dominate the larger toms just as easily as Tamatoa dominates his enemies. I wanted to get that sense of the massive power Scourge holds over Fire and Tiger across, as well as the glee he takes in being able to lord his strength over them, which is a big focus of the MAP. ^^

The idea for this pose came to me when I was thinking about the scene from Moana - specifically, the cage of what looks like ribs or bones of some kind that Tamatoa tosses Moana into. It almost looked like a circle of fangs or claws around her, closing her in and keeping her trapped and at Tamatoa's mercy. It suddenly gave me the idea to draw a massive Scourge using his reinforced dog-tooth claws as a fence to trap in a tiny Firestar (Tigerstar was a later addition when I realized he'd fit there too). The sort of psychedelic, exaggerated nature of the MAP could be emphasized by Scourge leaning in with an evil grin and an oversized eye peering maniacally at his helpless prey.

I'm actually really happy with how all of this turned out. I love how Scourge's expression and anatomy and all of that turned out. I pulled the colors for his weird-looking eye from Part 9A of the MAP by DekuCube, when his eye starts looking all hypnotic. I thought it looked really interesting, and would fit well for what I was trying to get across with this pose. ^^ Other than that, the colors and designs for all three characters are from the tumblr account Warriorcatsdesignz.

I'm not sure that the claws are closed in tightly enough to really be considered to be trapping them, but oh well. I do like how Tigerstar trying to get around Scourge's claw looks, and Firestar's frozen in terror and shock look. ^^ I tried another new brush for the shading, and I really like how it turned out. ^^ I used green for the shading, which I don't normally do, but I thought would fit the weird colors of the whole thing, and I used a light purple for the lighting for the same reaosn. I also tried to give the whole thing a bit of texture, I think it looks good. ^^

Overall, I'm really, really happy with how this turned out. I hope I do well in the contest, but even if not, I am really happy with how I did on this.
