The floor was cold on Kaede's bare feet. After discarding the socks, the gloves grabbed ahold of Kaede's left foot. They lifted it into the air, right at her eye level. It was as if they were making her watch, making her witness her changes. They started manipulating her foot. It was like a painful massage. For the first time, she could watch the hands at work. Pads grew on the bottom of her toes. Her trimmed nails grew curved and yellow.
