Biology

Manibeasts are large herbivores that inhabit the vast savannah in the center of Aeterna (Freyja’s western supercontinent). It has six powerful legs that can propel it forward at 25 mph. Its head is low slung and sports a pair of formidable horns that curve forward. They use these horns in battle but also to dig up roots. Manibeasts are heavily armored except for their underbelly. Manibeasts have very poor eyesight but make up for it with extraordinary hearing and smell. The most unusual part of a manibeast’s anatomy is its tail. The tail is divided into several segments that are hollow but still armored. When shaken the tail makes a loud low pitch rattle.

Behavior

Manibeasts are herd animals that travel in groups of 30 individuals. Herds consist of mothers and infants. Males are loners that only seek out females during mating season. As their scientific name suggests, Manibeasts have a very quick temper, especially females with young. When threatened, the rattle tail shakes as a warning. If the threat comes to close Manibeasts will mass attack in a stampede. Sometimes there will be no warning. In mating season, males will seek out females and use the rattle tail in courtship.
