Description As I’ve mentioned before, Forever 16 is set in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Which is kinda awkward for me ‘cause I live in Fall River, Massachusetts. But thanks to years and years of Midwestern jokes I’ve gleaned from Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Atop The Fourth Wall, I’m still pretty confident in my ability to capture the Minnesota lifestyle. “It was so ding-dang cold, I go outside, da stuff in my nose just freeze right up, dere.”

Buffalo weather can be pretty inconsistent at times. When it comes to Spring, it comes as early as mid March, or as late as late April.

I heard stories from my dad once about it getting so cold in Edmonton back in the sixties, people would forego cars in favor of horses (because THEIR internal combustion is always on ) and use their front doors as beer fridges because there would literally be snow up to the top of the door frames.

In some ways, that reminds me of springtime in Alaska.

That was last spring for sure. We had a blizzard in late April in Duluth.

Remember when the strip is set, yet to come are the record setting 1990s or the record setting 2000s.  Sure things were already warming but it hadn't gotten as bad as it was going to get.

No, that only applies in, and where, it is summer.

Isn't Eden Prairie Mall where they filmed Mallrats?

It was, which is why I look to that movie for background reference whenever I do a scene where the kids are at the mall.

That's great. It's like a subtle pop culture reference and it's a legitimate resource.

So I guess not every state has the same weather/temperature.

I've lived in Minnesota for nearly 20 years, and this is pretty accurate. Winter usually lasts between October and April around here.

Yeah it's spring where I am. But it's still chilly.
