Description My fan-made alternate sequel Wreck-It Ralph 2 is still plugging along, updating every Friday morning: www.fanfiction.net/s/13228215/… It's a lot of fun to write, mostly because I approached it the same way the real Disney artists do - I did a bunch of story sketches first to get a sense of where I wanted the story to go. Some of them I already shared here before the story went live, but I still have a lot left. Like this assortment here, detailing the moments before and after Sugar Rush gets unplugged. The Sugar Rush racers are some of my favorite characters to write for, because the movie only hinted at their personalities, giving me ample opportunity to bounce them off each other and explore new story possibilities we didn't see before. Those Candlehead gags are some of my favorites I've come up with

Like the strange new world scenario you're setting up here.

You've got these nailed to a T! I can hear Sarah Silverman's coming loud and clear here

Still, that's the one beef that I have with most animated movies these days - they introduce so many characters, there's never enough time to get to know them better. Personally, it might have helped if Disney had gone ahead with a Wreck-It Ralph TVS rather than a sequel. At least there the Sugar Rush characters would have more breathing space for development per episode. That's the one thing Dreamworks seem to do well with their franchises from what I've seen.

I have a throwaway line in Wreck-It Ralph 2 about a Sugar Rush anime series that never aired outside Japan, and the more I think about it, I wish Disney would actually do that. Like what they did with Buzz Lightyear of Star Command being the defictionalized version of whatever show Buzz is based on in the Toy Story universe. I think a lighthearted anime-style Sugar Rush series on Disney XD could be a lot of fun.

Yeah, I can see that working. I mean, there was that anime spin-off based on 'Lilo & Stitch' at around 2008-09. Not sure how popular that proved within or beyond Japan, but hey - we've been surprised before.

I love the work you put into this, especially Candlehead and her quotes. Β Also, poor Jubileena looks so scared on the second to last line of pictures. Β She needs a hug!

Too bad I can't use Disney Create to make a poster of this one (1. I haven't read the fanfiction yet, 2. Disney Create shut down years ago.)

This does sort of bring up a question I had while watching the first movie. If there are two games of the same title in an arcade, are there two each of the characters in that arcade-society?

This is a fantastic picture. It's great seeing more WIR art from you.

Another issue I had with the sequel was how the Sugar Rush Racers were practically lobotomized into becoming like Felix at the end of the film.Β
You know maybe there should've been a Sugar Rush Racers spin-off film so we can get more from them without over-focusing on them in the main films.Β  It certainly beats that awful Disney Princesses spin-off.

There was so much wasted potential in that truncated subplot, it's not even funny. I've seen the deleted scene where they're at the dinner table, and while it's obviously unpolished and needed a rewrite or two, it's definitely closer in tone to what I was expecting this movie to be.

There's two credited writers on the movie - I feel like Phil Johnston handled most of the stuff surrounding Felix and Calhoun and the Sugar Rush kids, and Pamela Ribon wrote most of the Ralph and Vanellope on the Internet stuff. Because as brief and unsatisfying as the scenes at the arcade are, they at least feel more like they belong in this world than the main plot does. They have the air of at least being written by someone who worked on the first movie, but they just didn't get the chance to develop them as much as they wanted.

I forgot all about the deleted scenes (I meant to check for them when the DVD/Bluray came out). But I just watched them and after seeing them, it seems like the movie was originally suppose to go in a different direction than what we got. It was still flawed, but not as bad as what we got. There still too much focus on the typical/overused internet stuff and Ralph still felt too much like a dumb man-child. But I enjoyed the Sugar Rush Racers at the table scene (I wouldn't be surprised if Felix's praying was another reason the scene was scrapped ). But even if that scene was kept in, it wouldn't be enough focus on them and I would still like a better ending to their story than lobotomizing them into being like Felix.

I agree so much with you that so much potential was wasted with this film. The name of the film alone should've been a hint that the the film was gonna be a disaster. Ralph Wrecks the Internet sounds so much better.

I'd recommend the movie's art book if you haven't read it. There's a lot of fascinating stuff they left out - like, at one point, the movie was going to have a villain, an antivirus algorithm named BEV who put Ralph in prison with a bunch of viruses. There was also talk of having Vanellope become the viral video star instead of Ralph, and the conflict coming from her getting a swelled head from all the attention.

And the color script reveals more deleted scenes of the Felix and Calhoun subplot - Calhoun teaching the Sugar Rush kids how to shoot, Calhoun and Felix experiencing empty nest syndrome after Sugar Rush gets plugged back in and the kids go home, and all of them joining Ralph and Vanellope on the Internet at the climax to stop the virus. I think any of these, if they'd been developed more, could've made a much better movie overall.

I have not read it, but it sounds a lot better than what the film did. Vanellope being the one who gets a swell head sounds like a more interesting and less predictable way to go than Ralph getting the ego. I swear it feels like a lot was sacrifice so they shove in the Disney stuff and the princesses to stroke Disney's ego and force in a bittersweet ending.

I agree about everything you've described about the movie's art info being better off left in the film.
