Description Ah the ESRB; with just a couple of words, you give the consumer a basic idea of what they're getting themselves into with every video game purchase...!  Of course, it's not just video games where you have to be wary of the content; same goes for the stuff you watch too!  I decided to draw little images describing the three biggest offenders, featuring Shadow the Hedgehog, Zero Two, and "that pervy Inkling girl OC of mine that devoted watchers will instantly recognize"!  Ms. Accord's there just to add a little pizzazz to the whole thing, and I'll come up with something for that empty space soon enough.  For now, you can laugh at the meme spouted by Shadow, and cringe in fear of the other two!

Edit 5/13/2018: Finally filled in that empty space on the side, with a little something I like to call the "Severity Meter"!  Because sometimes a little bit of any of the aforementioned content shouldn't necessarily render something unplayable/unwatchable.  And yes, the meter IS based on The Ultimate Choice from Kirby Star Allies (and yes I have been talking about that game a lot these days!)!  It should make the drawing feel more complete and overall make it more interesting!

Totally!

Everyone likes that line; hence why it has a special place in the wide assortment of Sonic memes!

And people still complain about the games being too violent, suggestive and mean when the ESRB rating is right there. Oh well, clueless people.

Accord, giving such helpful things since the beginning of time... or since 2004, to be exact.

I guess they're complaining about the fact that video games even have that stuff, but they don't realize there are other, cleaner choices to choose from!

And Ms. Accord is one of the best teachers ever!

A good lesson for people of all ages, however ignorant a certain few may be when it comes to content.

Yeah, some folks intentionally try to find such things; but for everyone else, this lets us know what (and who) to stay away from!

Indeed. When it comes to content rating, I imagine Ms. Accord is better at it than those who deliberately take the lazy route by pulling a Jack Thompson. Trust me, I've seen it happen WAY too many times in the news media.

Considering she teaches children (er, teenagers?), Ms. Accord probably's not gonna go into TOO much detail...

I wish more people would keep these in mind. It’s annoying when I’m trying to look for cute or cool art here, and I instead see more unpleasant things. The mature content button exists for a reason, people!

This would be more of a heads up for the people looking up stuff rather than the folks drawing it, but I hear ya. Too many people ignore the mature content filter...

I find it horribly Ironic that the ESRB was established because of Parents complaining about the Content in Video Games, Yet they willingly let their kids play T or M-Rated Games Today. They prove exactly why such a "Rating System" is pointless.

JBX9001 In reply to SoundFX09 [2018-04-26 17:07:14 +0000 UTC]

That's probably due to differences in the generations of parenting; the kids who tried to play games they shouldn't are now parents themselves, and don't really care about the age rating since they never did.  Also worth noting that only violent games tend to get a free pass, like Grand Theft Auto (though I've noticed that series is only as violent as the player makes it; you could just follow the missions and not go on a mindless rampage, essentially making the game T rather than M); games like this Senran Kagura series I've heard about, which is just full of ecchi (and also rated M), would probably concern parents [more] if they found out their child was playing that.

Teen rated games usually aren't so bad, and some games I feel shouldn't even have the Teen rating (such as Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl).  Other times though, I feel it's not high enough; Super Mario Galaxy is rated E, which makes sense at face value right?  But then you see all the ways Mario could die in the game; falling into black holes, getting crushed by giant obstacles (and instantly dying), suffocating under toxic sludge, losing your last bit of health by electrocution resulting in Mario being reduced to HIS BONES, getting disintegrated by falling in dark matter.  That s*** disturbs me and I'm an adult, it'd certainly freak out some of the little ones!

I think this is why Super Mario Odyssey is the first main Super Mario game to be rated E10+ because of this resources from Super Mario Galaxy.

If you wanna count the RPGs as well, then that honor actually goes to Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. Overall, Mario Strikers Charged was first.

Honestly, The Standard itself too is a Mess. I'm more for taking down the rating system, since there's no real defined standard for each rating.

Heck, I'll put one more example of a Game that should've been rated T.
Super Paper Mario.

JBX9001 In reply to SoundFX09 [2018-04-27 16:43:32 +0000 UTC]

Well, I dunno about removing it completely. Some people may still use it to decide which games to get for themselves. And I imagine then all of a sudden parents WILL start to complain about the removal of ESRB even though they didn't seem to care. That's just me.

And yes, Super Paper Mario is DEFINITELY above that E rating!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SoundFX09 In reply to JBX9001 [2018-04-28 01:12:54 +0000 UTC]

Ultimately, The ESRB can't really accurately define what is E, E10+, T, or M. So Why have a faulty rating system out there that doesn't accomplish what it's supposed to do?
It's all the responsibility of the Parent to NOT allow their child to even purchase or play the game because of its content. Not some faulty rating system.

I'll rest my case there.

JBX9001 In reply to zurtur [2018-04-26 16:52:18 +0000 UTC]

Considering these are the three things people think of right away when it comes to "inappropriate content", it's practically common knowledge by now.  I may expand the drawing to include all of the content descriptions, such as "Comic Mischief", "Crude Humor", etc.

Violence/Cartoon Violence/Fantasy Violence is another, but that's practically guaranteed in 99% of every video game ever made and what will be made, and only raises the ESRB rating to E10+ at its most severe (unless bloodshed happens, then that adds Blood/Animated Blood to the equation).  Some games don't have it listed even though it does occur, such as the New Super Mario Bros. games; I guess the possibility of getting impaled by a giant, spiky pillar rushing towards you at high speed isn't violent at all...

zurtur In reply to JBX9001 [2018-04-26 20:59:53 +0000 UTC]

I do like to see that.

What about a Giant Pike ball chasing you while breaking the floor on a attempt on make you fall on the Spikes that are below the floor?

Couldn't agree more (I should know, I created her... )!  Let's just hope she never meets Schezo Wegey; she'd pretty much interpret his "questionable vocabulary" as completely intentional!

I'm pretty sure Lillie would love to peeve him off.

JBX9001 In reply to Palkachu [2018-04-26 05:52:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, Schezo definitely looks cool, but his character flaw is that he ends up saying dirty comments without meaning to. Prime example, he claims he just wants Arle's power, but he says things like "I want you!", "Be my desire!", and "Give me all of you!"

All phrases Lillie Quidd would be much too happy to fulfill...!
