Description We met this mare last year in Normandy, grazing on a large meagre meadow with other horses, but staying apart from the rest.
When we approached the fence, the other horses bit her off. The only way of showing some kindness to her was splitting up and at least temporarily be able to find a place among the thorns where we could say some nice words to her and give her some of the fresh green grass that did not grow in their meadow, but at the side of little country-road.
She grave us the impression of a great, yet suffering gentleness.

Horses can be very cruel to each other...you know this horse will never forget the sound of your voice now. They remember kindness for a very long time. Wonderful shot.

I am very glad with so much understanding. Yes, it was a sad creature, and we were glad to be able to give it some warmth for a moment.

Lovely picture and sad story. I have learned just in the last couple of years that indeed horses can be dreadful to each other, and that this treatment of one horse by the herd is by no means uncommon.

What a sad story. The horse must feel very lonely.
You know... we hear many sad stories about horses. We always wonder how it's possible to hurt them as much as it happens. (It's really an everlasting subject....)
