Brief drawing sketch of the World War Two Soviet heavy tank JS-2 that entered service in 1944 and retired later in 1991 as a response to the German Big Cats of the Tiger and Panther tanks along with the Ferdinand tank destroyers, sporting thick sloped frontal armor thick enough to counter the 88s and 75s carried by these panzers at normal combat ranges. This tanks served in many wars beyond such as the 1956 Hungarian Uprising, 1950-1953 Korean war, 1967 Six-Day War between Egypt and Israel, and Vietnam War as reserves. Many were later converted into static anti-tank and artillery defense emplacements after becoming obsolete in the face of more advanced Western European main battle tanks such as the Pattons, M103, Conquerors, Leopards, AMX-30, and T-55, T-62, T-64s, and T-72s. The JS-2 was later replaced by more advanced Russian heavy tanks such as the JS-3, JS-8/T-10M tank series with the distinctive pike nose and advanced optics/ammunition, and newer Russian main battle tanks in the 1960s-1980s.
