Fan art! WOW! That's... well, I never really attempted fan art purposefully. Most times, I usually just happen to draw them by chance. I mean, midway through a sketch or just putting in the rough details do I actually say "Wow! That looks like xxx! Cool, let's go with that!"

Hah... They usually end up... in the recycling bin. Not this one though! This one actually made it through! (Although I was tempted to throw this one away time after time again...) For those that may not know, this is Kiki and Jiji (the cat) from "Kiki's Delivery Service." If you don't know that, then a similar film (I think they're by the same studio... I think (let me check up on that later though!) so they have similar art styles. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they were made from the same person.

"Kiki's Delivery Service" is essentially a "coming-of-age" type of movie. You have a young witch named Kiki who sets off on a little pilgrimage in order to become a full-fledged witch. It's a simple movie, but it's so... awesome. It's so sweet and it's one of my all-time favorites (yes, Spirited Away is number 1!). Kiki's was one of the first films that actually got me involved in the anime scene. The art style was nice and well done at the time (I actually do like the art style even now!) but I was really drawn in by Kiki. I mean, come on... what kid didn't want to fly a broomstick all day? It looked like tons of fun! Plus you get to talk to cats. Yeah. Cute Jiji.

Kiki is a cute gal and all. Simple and sweet little girl, but how I started the piece wasn't as sweet. Ugh. It was a nightmare. Before I even considered drawing Kiki, I just wanted to draw something. Maybe a promo poster for an upcoming project or perhaps a picture of my little Tersa in her dress. Heck, the rough sketches became all twisty and bendy that I started to think I was drawing a tree. ._.
So, Kiki just popped into my mind today. I was trying to envision the picture I want to draw. At first it was a girl falling from the sky and then it turned into Chihiro falling... and, alas, the infamous Kiki on a broom, who I am thankful for. She was an inspiration for me as a child and now she's absolutely heart-warming for me that I couldn't think of anything else but to draw Kiki. Though Chihiro came in a close second (keke).
