If you think my thoughts on The Dark Knight would improve from Batman Begins, think again. I remember its midnight showing being packed, but the payoff was far less than the two crowds shoving up the lobby tightly. Everybody kept saying that Heath Ledger was their favorite Joker, and that was the overall problem. I don't see the Joker, just some random, fidgeting anarchist. (It's probably just as well that, at the same year, Cartoon Network gave us The Brave and the Bold.)

Iron Man was more entertaining, but its title character was even less likable. My problem with Tony Stark could only be summed up by Captain America a few years later.

I used to like High School Musical, but that was before the Zanessa ship got incinerated into ash before it even started to sink. Which is why the third film, the only one in the franchise to have a theatrical release, is not rated as highly as it used to be.

The irony is that the Clone Wars TV series is more memorable than the movie. This, on the other hand, is my least favorite Star Wars movie merely because of how forgettable it is. Somehow, the voice of Christopher Lee did not mesh well with the stylized Dooku design. Still, I can give credit for the introduction of now fan favorite Ahsoka Tano.

We've got ourselves another Dr. Seuss movie starring Jim Carrey. Only this time, it was an animated movie--from Blue Sky Studios, no less! Like The Grinch, Horton Hears a Who can be awarded for effort of finding some way to expand on the original short story without being time-filling filler. The big difference is that it's more faithful to the source material, and the only proper pop culture reference is actually Horton reciting that rhyme he made when he hatched that egg in the other story.

Escape 2 Africa is a vast improvement over the first Madagascar film, but still, I'd make do without the lemurs, thank you very little.

WALL-E is indeed a good movie, but personal experience tells me that it's better if you watch it with a group. I tried watching it by myself, and I got bored within just a few minutes.

Kung Fu Panda really is awesome in that it deviates from the usual DreamWorks formula of forced pop culture references and pointless celebrity voices and focuses more instead on telling a story.

On the other side of the Pacific, Hayao Miyazaki had done it again. This time, he created something completely different in the form of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, shortened in Western theaters into simply Ponyo. It's not as heavy as Princess Mononoke, nor is it as rich as Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle. Instead, it is a lighter-hearted children's story with a simple, stylized animation more reminiscent of One Hundred and One Dalmatians. It would be the last of his films that I'd see, as personal experience with the English dub of The Secret World of Arriety made me skeptical if The Wind Rises would be any good.
