His programming probably would've overridden his emotions, but I'll bet a confrontation with his old buddy Rex during the events of Rebels would've shaken him up pretty badly.

A good soldier obeys his orders.

Then he puts his blaster in his mouth and wipes away forever the memory of opening fire on his best friend.

Well, to be fair, most soldiers don’t have a blob of Sith mind control alchemy in their brain trying to turn them into a meat puppet of the Dark Side. So, extra credit to the soldier who can STILL have doubts in spite of that.

Cody deserves better than to be a brainless drone with feelings. In fact no Clone Trooper should have to go through this.

CT-7598 ,Β It dosen't matter if there are chips in the movies or not, the chips are actually 100% canon, and it is (in my opinion) the reason why clones who formed such deep and meaningful relationships with their Jedi commanders turned and killed them without question. JeanSebastien-P ,Β back on subject, I really like this piece. I really like the concept that Commander Cody (after realizing what he did) let Obi-Wan escape and ultimately faked his death to satisfy the chancellor while still letting a great friend of his escape and survive. If I were him, realizing what I had done, I most likely would've done the same thing. Great work!

I believe that Cody removed his chip in secret. I believe he faked Kenobi's death to spare him.

CT-7598 In reply to Squeakiergerm8 [2016-12-27 20:41:33 +0000 UTC]

No. There are no chips in the movies. Instead the clones where genetically modified and brainwashed to be 100 % loyal to the Chancellor. Not the Jedi.

I believe Cody let Obi Wan run away because his men couldn't find him

The movie was too vague on the particulars of how the Caminans were conned into brainwashing them in this way and by what method. There is nothing in episodes 2&3 that contradict biochips, and that method actually makes sense. Total slaves, such as the ancient Sith Alchemists engineered, were exactly the kind of slaves you assume the clones to be, but a hive mind like that would have stood out to the Jedi, and made the clones very creepy. Before he was recruited to become a Sith, Palpatine, like Padme, was eugenically bred to be a super politician by Millennia of their world’s efforts (which may have been a major reason his master picked him) and that inherent Savvy, made him understand that it was vital not to become too scary too soon. Allowing the Clones a degree of genuine humanity made them easier for the Republic to accept and eventually depend on them. Of, course, that carried a risk of anomalies like Tuup and Fives, but he probably calculated that such was bound to happen from one in a million, and therefore an acceptable risk that could be dealt with.

I know that there is some material in either the Expanded Universe....oh sorry I meant 'Legends' and current cannon that quite a few of the Clone Troopers later on had regret and or PTSD after the Jedi Massacre. But anyway this is a great image of Cody holding onto the Jedi cloak of his former General, comrade, and friend.
