I decided to set the opacity at 100% for some of the C4Ds in the back though...
Don't know if that was a good move. I also use Gimp and couldn't do any of the adjustments besides curves, hue-saturation, and color balance.

Hmmm. Overall I think it doesn't look to bad, but since you don't have access to gradient maps, the colors don't quite come together nearly as well as they could. I also think you could have moved your render a little further up and to the left.
